Instrumental Rationality Without Separability [PDF]

open access: yesErkenntnis, 2018
AbstractThis paper argues that instrumental rationality is more permissive than expected utility theory. The most compelling instrumentalist argument in favour of separability, its core requirement, is that agents with non-separable preferences end up badly off by their own lights in some dynamic choice problems.

Retrieval of a separated nickel–titanium instrument and a stainless steel H-file using a novel tube, loop and file technique

open access: yesJournal of International Clinical Dental Research Organization, 2018
Instrument separation is one of the most common procedural errors that may occur during endodontic treatment. A separated instrument can create an obstruction in the root canal which can hinder the cleaning and shaping procedures.

Clinical and radiographic evaluation of procedural errors during preparation of curved root canals with hand and rotary instruments: A randomized clinical study

open access: yesContemporary Clinical Dentistry, 2017
Background: The process of cleaning and shaping the canal is not an easy goal to obtain, as canal curvature played a significant role during the instrumentation of the curved canals.

Perm-selective ultrathin high flux microporous polyaryl nanofilm for molecular separation

open access: yesiScience, 2022
Summary: Polymeric membranes with high permeance and selectivity performances are anticipated approach for water treatment. Separation membranes with moderate molecular weight cut-offs (MW in between 400 and 700 g mol−1) are desirable to separate ...

Hierarchical musical instrument separation

open access: yes, 2020
Many sounds that humans encounter are hierarchical in nature; a piano note is one of many played during a performance, which is one of many instruments in a band, which might be playing in a bar with other noises occurring. Inspired by this, we re-frame the musical source separation problem as hierarchical, combining similar instruments together at ...

An iterative, residual-based approach to unsupervised musical source separation in single-channel mixtures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This thesis concentrates on a major problem within audio signal processing, the separation of source signals from musical mixtures when only a single mixture channel is available.

Improving instrument recognition in polyphonic music through system integration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A method is proposed for instrument recognition in polyphonic music which combines two independent detector systems. A polyphonic musical instrument recognition system using a missing feature approach and an automatic music transcription system based on ...

Navigating Separated Instrument Retrieval: A Case Report

open access: yesCureus, 2023
Instrument separation during endodontic therapy is a complication occurring in 2% to 6% of cases. Focusing on the Masserann technique, the study presents a success rate of 55% in retrieving separated instruments. The technique's effectiveness is demonstrated through a case involving retrieving an instrument from the mandibular first premolar.
