Big data — Instrumentation and signal processing
2015 IEEE 3rd International Conference on Smart Instrumentation, Measurement and Applications (ICSIMA), 2015Instrumentation and the ready availability of sensors is leading to a dramatic increase in the collection of Data, and the field of Big Data is now much in favour. In effect Big Data refers to the dramatic increase in the amount and rate of data being created and collected, driven by the number and types of acquisition devices and instrumentation.

Seismological service of Canada: Instrumentation and data processing
Physics of the Earth and Planetary Interiors, 1979Abstract The Earth Physics Branch of the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources operates a variety of seismological installations throughout Canada including nineteen Standard and fourteen Regional Stations. At Yellowknife there is an 18-element short-period medium-aperture array with on-site processing which produces a daily detection bulletin ...

High Frequency Instrument data processing
2014We describe the processing of the 531 billion raw data samples from the High Frequency Instrument (HFI), which we performed to produce six temperature maps from the first 473 days of Planck-HFI survey data. These maps provide an accurate rendition of the sky emission at 100, 143, 217, 353, 545, and 857 GHz with an angular resolution ranging from 9. 0 7

Processing IFU data from VLT instruments
New Astronomy Reviews, 2006Abstract Currently three ESO/VLT instruments employ IFUs: FLAMES/GIRAFFE, VIMOS, and SINFONI. As all other VLT data, the IFU data from these three instruments are fed into a data flow system that provides, as main functions, archiving and pipeline processing.

Rapid Processing of Astronomical Data for the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument
2020 IEEE/ACM HPC for Urgent Decision Making (UrgentHPC), 2020Dark energy remains one of the least understood areas of modern cosmology and physics. The Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) was built to improve our understanding through the acquisition of data from over thirty million galaxies. DESI, located at the four meter Mayall Telescope on Kitt Peak in Arizona, is a highly multiplexed instrument ...

Data processing and display algorithms for portable instruments
IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science, 1988Data processing and display algorithms that have general utility to the processing of statistically poor data and its subsequent presentation on digital or digitally generated analog displays have been developed for microprocessor-based portable radiation instrumentation. By using a modified exponentially weighted filter, the data displayed become easy

Data processing and sensitivity studies of the GOMOS instrument
SPIE Proceedings, 1996The data processing of the global ozone monitoring by occultation of stars instrument separates naturally into two parts. The nonlinear spectral inversion retrieves the horizontally integrated gas densities. The vertical profiles of the gases are retrieved by using the generalized onion peeling method.

Miniaturized Data Processing Units for Space Instruments
54th International Astronautical Congress of the International Astronautical Federation, the International Academy of Astronautics, and the International Institute of Space Law, 2003Individual Data Processing Units (DPU) are commonly used for control and data processing of scientific space instruments. These units have to provide sufficient computing power, mission specific radiation tolerance, low allocation of power, volume and mass, and adequate reliability at moderate unit costs.
