The compatibility tests between vegetable insulating oil and mineral insulating oil

2014 ICHVE International Conference on High Voltage Engineering and Application, 2014
Vegetable insulating oil shows good performance in electric, high anti-aging ability and environmental protection. Thus it is considered as a promising substitute for mineral insulating oil. In order to the wide spread application of vegetable oil in large power transformers, this paper designed the compatibility tests between vegetable insulating oil ...

Development of insulating oils

Journal of the A.I.E.E., 1929
During the last 35 years or more the development of insulating oil for use in transformers, circuit breakers, etc., has paralleled the development of electrical apparatus. Various steps in the development of oils for this purpose are described in the paper.

Electrical Aging of Insulation Oils [PDF]

open access: possible2025 IEEE Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena (CEIDP)
In this investigation we have carried out a comparative electrical aging study of a natural ester, a synthetic ester, a bio-sourced hydrocarbon fluid and a conventional mineral oil. Repeated electrical discharges were applied to the oils and the resulting physical, chemical, and dielectric changes were characterized.

Standards and insulation characteristics of oil-insulated transformers

Electrical Engineering, 1945
THE STRENGTH of the insulation in transformers to resist various types of voltage stress is very important. The service and life of the transformer is partially dependent on the insulation strength, and in recognition of this fact standards for insulation strength long have been established. In the course of time improvements have taken place in design,

Emergency Overloads for Oil-Insulated Transformers

Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1942
IN periods of high industrial activity transformer loads are generally high, and it is essential that operators know what overloads they can carry safely in emergencies. In order to do this effectively, it is necessary to know what temperatures will be reached after various overloads for different durations of time and the effects of temperature and ...

Corona measurements on oil-insulated transformers

Electrical Engineering, 1957
A description is given of a technique recently devised which permits the accurate determination of corona. With proper discrimination between external corona in air and internal corona in voids and corners under oil, quantitative measurements may be made on oil-insulated transformers.

The effects of insulator structure and insulating oil to charge accumulation in oil-immersed transformers

Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Properties and Applications of Dielectric Materials (Cat. No.03CH37417), 2004
We directly measured the electric field in transformer oil/pressboard (PB) system under dc voltage using an electro-optic method by Kerr effect. We measured time variations and spatial distributions of electric field in the insulating oil. We measured them in both fresh oil/PB and degraded oil/PB composite systems to clarify the effect of material ...
