AdeNet: Deep learning architecture that identifies damaged electrical insulators in power lines [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Ceramic insulators are important to electronic systems, designed and installed to protect humans from the danger of high voltage electric current. However, insulators are not immortal, and natural deterioration can gradually damage them. Therefore, the condition of insulators must be continually monitored, which is normally done using UAVs.

Electric charging of magnetic textures on the surface of a topological insulator [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. B82:161401,2010, 2010
A three-dimensional topological insulator manifests gapless surface modes, described by two-dimensional Dirac equation. We study magnetic textures, such as domain walls and vortices, in a ferromagnetic thin film deposited on a three-dimensional topological insulator. It is shown that these textures can be electrically charged, ascribed to the proximity

Electrically insulated molecular wires [PDF]

open access: yesSupramolecular Chemistry, 2010
Abstract: This paper is an up-to-date mini-review based on literature data and own results regarding synthesis and properties of conducting (pseudo)rotaxane supramolecular structures. Conjugated polymers e.g. polyarylene, polyheteroarylene, polyaniline, polyarylenevinylene or polyaryleneimine were used as axle, while the macrocyclic components were ...

Hydrogel‐Based Capacitive Sensor Model for Ammonium Monitoring in Aquaculture

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Traditional techniques for monitoring aquaculture water quality, particularly ammonium levels, harm fish. This work presents a novel capacitive sensor with an ionic hydrogel transducer to monitor ammonium concentration in real time based on the ammonium‐induced hydrogel dissociation and osmotic pressure. Monitoring aquaculture water quality, especially

Modeling and Accessing Smart Materials with Integrity Constraints in the Shapes Constraint Language and Ontologies—The SmaDi Way

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Integrity constraints enforce consistency and completeness on data. The article discusses a newly developed validator for checking integrity constraints in Shapes Constraint Language (SHACL) through reduction to SPARQL Protocol and RDF Query Language (SPARQL) queries. It can be used with systems for ontology‐based database access.

AE-YOLOv5 for Detection of Power Line Insulator Defects

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of the Computer Society
The power transmission network, which delivers power energy from generator to customers, plays an important role in the power grid. Insulator is a basic component in the power transmission network.

Ontology‐Based Data Acquisition, Refinement, and Utilization in the Development of a Multilayer Ferrite Inductor

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Multilayer ferrite inductor prototypes are fabricated by cofiring metallized tapes of NiCuZn ferrite and glass‐ceramic composite. Prerequisites for a predictive component simulation are discussed. An automated data‐pipeline stores and semantically links the experimental data acquired in the study according to a domain ontology.

A Microgripper with a Post-Assembly Self-Locking Mechanism

open access: yesSensors, 2015
In this work, we report a new design for an electrostatically actuated microgripper with a post-assembly self-locking mechanism. The microgripper arms are driven by rotary comb actuators, enabling the microgripper to grip objects of any size from 0 to ...

Electrical Activity of Topological Chiral Edge Magnons [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Topological magnon insulators support chiral edge excitations, whose lack of electric charge makes them notoriously difficult to detect experimentally. We show that relativistic magnetoelectric coupling universally renders chiral edge magnons electrically active, thereby facilitating electrical probes of magnon topology.

Nonlinearity and Domain Switching in a 3D‐Printed Architected Ferroelectric

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
By combining functional properties measurement with in situ 2D X‐ray microdiffraction experiments, it is shown that nonlinear polarization and strain responses of a 3D‐printed architected ferroelectric are driven by localized progression of domain switching, which depends on nonuniform electric‐field distribution as well as evolving stress fields.
