Obesity and breast cancer in premenopausal women: Current evidence and future perspectives [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
There is raising evidence reporting an increased incidence of breast cancer over the past decades. Every year approximately 1.4 million new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed worldwide, with a mortality rate of approximately 450,000/year.

Short hairpin RNA targeting insulin-like growth factor binding protein-3 restores the bioavailability of insulin-like growth factor-1 in diabetic rats

open access: yesInternational Brazilian Journal of Urology, 2016
Purpose To investigate whether intracavernosal injection of short hairpin RNA for IGFBP-3 could improve erectile function in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats.

3D Bioprinting of Thick Adipose Tissues with Integrated Vascular Hierarchies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 12, March 18, 2025.
An advanced 3D bioprinting technique is used here to create thick adipose tissues with a central, vessel and extensive branching. The construct is made using alginate, gelatin and collagen‐based bioinks. Flow through the complex vessel network is demonstrated as well as its successful integration with a femoral artery following implantation in a rat ...

Role of Insulin-like Growth Factor Binding Protein 3 as a Diagnostic Marker of Growth Hormone in Patients with Acromegaly

open access: yesMìžnarodnij Endokrinologìčnij Žurnal, 2013
The paper studied the levels IGFBP-3 in patients with acromegaly, received different therapies. The findings showed that patients with acromegaly after surgical removal of a pituitary tumor, as well as after radiation therapy, the most sensitive ...

Insulin-like growth factor 1 and hair growth

open access: yesDermatology Online Journal, 1999
Insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) has been identified as an important growth factor in many biological systems.[1] It shares considerable structural homology with insulin and exerts insulin-like effects on food intake and glucose metabolism. Recently it has been suggested to play a role in regulating cellular proliferation and migration during the ...

Insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA-binding proteins (IGF2BPs): post-transcriptional drivers of cancer progression?

open access: yesCellular and Molecular Life Sciences, 2012
The insulin-like growth factor-2 mRNA-binding proteins 1, 2, and 3 (IGF2BP1, IGF2BP2, IGF2BP3) belong to a conserved family of RNA-binding, oncofetal proteins.

Biologically‐Inspired Melt Electrowriting for the Generation of Highly Biomimetic Functional Myocardium

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this work, melt electrowriting is used to fabricate a 3D printed scaffold design that generates engineered cardiac tissues with in‐plane contraction, mimicking natural myocardium. It is shown that these tissues display advanced maturation and functionality.

The IGF system during growth and differentiation of the mouse [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
The insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) were first discovered in 1957 by Salmon and Daughaday (1957). They found that in vivo administration of growth hormone (GH) induced a serum factor capable of stimulating sulfate uptake in cartilage.

Elevated intraocular pressure in patients with acromegaly [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
To evaluate central corneal thickness (CCT) and intraocular pressure (IOP) in a cohort of acromegalic patients, and to correlate CCT with serum levels of growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1)

Evaluation of Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 and Insulin-like Growth Factor Binding Protein-3 Expression Levels in Patients with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia

open access: yesTurkish Journal of Hematology, 2016
Objective: Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is a disease of nonproliferating and mature-appearing B lymphocytes. Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) is a small peptide hormone and has mitogenic and antiapoptotic effects, and insulin-like growth ...
