Omnidirectional Ultra‐Broadband Cu/TiO2 Metasurface Absorbers for High‐Efficiency Solar Thermal Conversion and Photothermal Plasmon‐Driven Catalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Metasurface shows selective solar–thermal energy conversion with high‐activity solar/laser‐driven chemistry. The breakthrough is co‐designing broadband FP‐cavity + plasmonic LSPR/SLR resonances in an ultra‐thin metamaterial so that it not only harvests the most efficient proportion of solar radiation but also suppresses mid and IR emissivity. Moreover,

On q-analogue of Difference Operator with Non-integer Order [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this paper, we study a q-analogue of difference operator with non-integer order. The main theorem is that the composition rule for this operator is satisfied.

Continuum Mechanics Modeling of Flexible Spring Joints in Surgical Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A new mechanical model of a tendon‐actuated helical extension spring joint in surgical robots is built using Cosserat rod theory. The model can implicitly handle the unknown contacts between adjacent coils and numerically predict spring shapes from straight to significantly bent under actuation forces.

Does the Open Limit Order Book Reveal Information About Short-run Stock Price Movements? [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper empirically tests whether an open limit order book contains information about future short-run stock price movements. To account for the discrete nature of price changes, the integer-valued autoregressive model of order one is utilized.

Consensus Formation and Change are Enhanced by Neutrality

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Neutral agents are shown to enhance both the formation and overturning of consensus in collective decision‐making. A general mathematical model and experiments with locusts and humans reveal that neutrality enables robust consensus via simple interactions and accelerates consensus change by reducing effective population size.

On the Composition and Neutrix Composition of the Delta Function with the Hyperbolic Tangent and Its Inverse Functions

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2011
Let F be a distribution in D' and let f be a locally summable function. The composition F(f(x)) of F and f is said to exist and be equal to the distribution h(x) if the limit of the sequence {Fn(f(x))} is equal to h(x), where Fn(x)=F(x)*δn(x) for n=1,2,…

Helix Alignment, Chevrons, and Edge Dislocations in Twist‐Bend Ferroelectric Nematics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The recently discovered twist‐bend ferroelectric nematic (NTBF) is the new member of the multiferroic family, representing a fluid with an oblique helicoidal (heliconical) periodic structure of spontaneous electric polarization. The work presents a thorough exploration of the material properties of this phase, how the periodic modulation of ...

CAMD for Entrainer Screening of Extractive Distillation Process Based on New Thermodynamic Criteria

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2018
This paper presents a framework for finding homogeneous entrainers E to separate non-ideal mixtures AB by extractive distillation. The framework is a systematic approach to convert a Computer Aided Molecular Design into a mixed integer non-linear program
