A probabilistic evaluation of an integral abutment bridge

In last years, a new trend in the construction of short and medium span bridges has raised in some countries. The solution of an Integral Abutment Bridge (IAB), when possible to do, reduces the cost of construction and maintenance because expansion joints and bearings are not necessary.

Modeling and Seismic Analysis of Integral Abutments

Case studies for integral abutment bridges with skew and with no skew are presented. Unlike conventional single span bridges where seismic forces are neglected, there is a need to consider seismic behavior in single span bridges with integral abutments to help design the buried abutment piles.

Abstract For the convenience in the construction of composite bridges with integral abutments, this paper proposes an innovative girder-abutment joint. In this joint, the bottom plate of steel girder is connected to a pre-embedded plate, and the concrete at the girder end is cast after the erection of the girder.
