ABSTRACT In 2019, the Dadan Archaeological Project (CNRS/RCU/AFALULA) identified a Late Antique village 1 km south of ancient Dadan in the al‐ʿUlā valley (northwest Saudi Arabia). Three excavation seasons at this site (2021–2023) have uncovered a massive building constructed in the late third or early fourth cent.

Monitoring of a bridge with integral abutments
Preliminary results obtained from short term test-loading are used to illustrate possibilities of FEM used to calibrate complex interaction characteristics between a pile and soil in a bridge with integral abutments. The measurements are obtained during the winter season on the bridge over Leduån, in Northern Sweden.

Modified Sheet Pile Abutments for Low-Volume Road Bridges: TR-568, January 2012
To date there have been few investigations of the substructures in low-volume road (LVR) bridges. Steel sheet piling has the potential to provide an economical alternative to concrete bridge abutments, but it needs investigation with regard to vertical ...

Exploring Complex Historical Figures through a Modified Critical Making Framework
Abstract This paper examines ‘critical making’ as a framework for exploring complex problems and topics. Critical making combines an iterative process of making with research, reflection and analysis. The authors present a modified critical making process that builds on the reflexive material engagement introduced by the originator of critical making ...

Effects of wall movements on performance of integral abutment bridges
Abutment walls in integral abutment bridges (IABs) move in a cyclic pattern in response to temperature-induced expansion and/or contraction of the bridge superstructure.

Bahavior and Analysis of an Integral Abutment Bridge
In order to quantify the influence of temperature changes on integral abutment bridge movements, thirty-two Sokkia RS30N reflective targets were strategically attached to a bridge along its length. These targets were surveyed every month for twelve consecutive months.
