Derivations of Integral Equations of Elasticity

open access: yesJournal of Engineering Mechanics - ASCE, 1988
In this paper, we derive the integral equations of elasticity, which may be considered to be a very general formulation for solutions of (cracked and uncracked) elasticity problems. The formulation is general enough to be a starting point for an analytical study or for a numerical treatment.

Structural symmetry within nonlocal integral elasticity: theoretical issues and computational strategies

open access: yesCurved and Layered Structures, 2017
The structural symmetry and the appropriate definition of a reduced (symmetric) mechanical/ numerical model is discussed within a nonlocal elasticity context. In particular, reference is made to an integral model of Eringen-type. The paper highlights how

Dynamics of Stress-Driven Two-Phase Elastic Beams

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2021
The dynamic behaviour of micro- and nano-beams is investigated by the nonlocal continuum mechanics, a computationally convenient approach with respect to atomistic strategies.

Nonlocal Elasticity for Nanostructures: A Review of Recent Achievements

open access: yesEncyclopedia, 2023
Recent developments in modeling and analysis of nanostructures are illustrated and discussed in this paper. Starting with the early theories of nonlocal elastic continua, a thorough investigation of continuum nano-mechanics is provided.

A symplectic integration method for elastic filaments [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Chemical Physics, 2009
A new method is proposed for integrating the equations of motion of an elastic filament. In the standard finite-difference and finite-element formulations the continuum equations of motion are discretized in space and time, but it is then difficult to ensure that the Hamiltonian structure of the exact equations is preserved.

A Minimal Integrity Basis for the Elasticity Tensor [PDF]

open access: yesArchive for Rational Mechanics and Analysis, 2017
We definitively solve the old problem of finding a minimal integrity basis of polynomial invariants of the fourth-order elasticity tensor C. Decomposing C into its SO(3)-irreducible components we reduce this problem to finding joint invariants of a triplet (a, b, D), where a and b are second-order harmonic tensors, and D is a fourth-order harmonic ...

Generation a solution to the equations of elasticity theory for a layered strip basing on the principle of compressed mappings

open access: yesStructural Mechanics of Engineering Constructions and Buildings, 2023
A systematic presentation of the modified classical semi-inverse SaintVenant method as an iterative one is given on the example of generating a solution to the differential equations of elasticity theory for a long layered strip.

On the Elasticity of Marking Functions in an Integrated Network [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 2009
Much of the research on network modeling and analysis has focused on the design of end controllers and network algorithms with the objective of stability and convergence of the transmission rate. However, a network is typically composed of a mixture of both controlled elastic flows and uncontrolled real-time flows.

Integration of Streaming and Elastic Traffic in Wireless Networks [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE INFOCOM 2007 - 26th IEEE International Conference on Computer Communications, 2007
Channel-aware scheduling strategies have emerged as an effective mechanism for improving the throughput of wireless data users by exploiting rate variations. The improvement in throughput comes however at the expense of an increase in the variability of the service rate received over time. While the larger variability only has a limited impact on delay-
