On q-deformed gl(l+1)-Whittaker function II

open access: yes, 2008
A representation of a specialization of a q-deformed class one lattice gl(\ell+1}-Whittaker function in terms of cohomology groups of line bundles on the space QM_d(P^{\ell}) of quasi-maps P^1 to P^{\ell} of degree d is proposed.

Not just ‘super‐predators': human behaviour shapes wildlife behavioural responses across avoidance, tolerance and attraction

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Humans are thought to have a disproportionately negative impact on wildlife and are viewed by some as the ultimate ‘super predator'. This view implies that wild animals perceive humans primarily as predators. However, a growing body of evidence shows that wildlife can have remarkable tolerance for, or even attraction to, humans.

Overexploitation can counteract top‐down control and the paradox of enrichment in simple food chains

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Because of its high abundance or its high feeding intensity, a consumer can overexploit its resource by consuming it on a shorter timescale than resource regeneration. While this short‐term overexploitation is widespread in nature, its general implications for biotic control patterns and ecosystem stability are not clear.

On the integration of products of Whittaker functions with respect to the second index [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Physics, 2004
Several new formulas are developed that enable the evaluation of a family of definite integrals containing the product of two Whittaker Wκ,μ(x)-functions. The integration is performed with respect to the second index μ, and the first index κ is permitted to have any complex value, within certain restrictions required for convergence.

Marine trophic architecture and hidden ecological connections in the Strait of Magellan: keystone species and ecosystem resilience

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Understanding the ecological implications of species coexistence is central to biodiversity studies and to identify environmental and anthropogenic drivers of ecosystem dynamics, where ecological network analysis offers valuable insights. This study examines the complexity, structure, and potential responses to disturbances of the Strait of Magellan's ...

Development and Validation of the Prosocial Behavior in School Scale

open access: yesPsychology in the Schools, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study reports on the development, factor structure, and validity indicators of the Prosocial Behavior in School Scale (PBSS) among 4264 sixth‐ to eighth‐grade students in the United States. The final PBSS is a 12‐item self‐report measure of students' prosocial behavior in a specific classroom.

Single‐Particle Characterization Reveals Heterogeneous Extracellular Vesicle Fusion with Liposomes

open access: yesSmall Methods, EarlyView.
This study used five orthogonal single‐particle techniques to compare how common mechanical methods fuse extracellular vesicles with liposomes. By quantifying fused‐particle yield, purity, and vesicle integrity, we found that freeze‐thaw and sonication generated the highest fusion but that all methods introduced membrane perturbation or damage.

Hunting, but not outdoor recreation, modulates behavioural tolerance to human disturbance in Alpine marmots Marmota marmota

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Humans are often perceived as predators by free‐living animals, and thus, even non‐consumptive human activities such as outdoor recreation may trigger behavioural and physiological responses, often with negative consequences on individual fitness and population persistence.

Whittaker Functions for the Large Discrete Series Representations of $SU(2, 1)$ and Related Zeta Integrals

open access: yesPublications of the Research Institute for Mathematical Sciences, 1995
In terms of classical Bessel function, we represent explicitly the radial part of Whittaker functions on SU(2, 1) belonging to the large discrete series representations. Moreover we compute archimedean local

THE ‘OTHERS’ OF TENT CITIES: Reconstruction of Social Order Through Emotions

open access: yesInternational Journal of Urban and Regional Research, EarlyView.
Abstract Following the earthquakes in Türkiye on 6 February 2023, survivors continued their daily lives in tent cities, which emerged as a new heterotopic space where the boundaries between public and private spheres became intertwined. The transition from one's own ‘castle’ to a communal living space filled with uncertainties has heightened the ...
