On the Integration of Electric Vehicles into the Energy System [PDF]

open access: yes2019 8th Mediterranean Conference on Embedded Computing (MECO), 2019
Currently, the transport sector is responsible for about 23,5% of the total greenhouse gas emissions in the EU. Largest amount of these emissions is caused by road transport, especially passenger cars. Due to the increasing emissions and local air pollution, interest in electrification of mobility is rapidly growing.

Analysis and prediction of residual stresses based on cutting temperature and cutting force in rough turning of Ti–6Al–4V

open access: yesHeliyon, 2022
Turning is a typical machining process, which is widely used in the manufacturing process of parts. The residual stress introduced by turning has a significant influence on the mechanical properties, fatigue performance, and service safety, and is one of

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Remote community integrated energy system optimization including building enclosure improvements and quantitative energy trilemma metrics

open access: yes, 2020
Design strategies for sustainable energy systems in remote communities require holistic approaches, as policy, technological development and complex energy systems operation are inherently intertwined. The present work takes a multi-domain perspective in

Research Progress on Power Visual Detection of Overhead Line Bolt Defects Based on UAV Images

open access: yesDrones
In natural environments, the connecting bolts of overhead lines and power towers are prone to loosening and missing, posing potential risks to the safe and stable operation of the power system.

Lateral Resistance Requirement of Girder-Sleeper Fastener for CWR Track on an Open-Deck Steel Plate Girder Bridge

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
For an open-deck steel plate girder railway bridge with rail joints, frequent damage to the bridge members and a high level of noise and vibration occur.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Enhancing the properties of alkali-activated slag through dry ice addition: Investigation of hydration products and performance characteristics

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
To study the effect of dry ice on the performance of alkali-activated binders, we added dry ice to an alkali-activated slag (AAS). The addition amount was set to 5%, 10%, and 15% of the slag mass, depending on the amount of CO2 emitted by the material ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...
