Parallel connection of Integrated Gate Commutated Thyristors and diodes

2008 IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference, 2008
This paper describes the parallel connection of 4.5 kV integrated gate commutated thyristors (IGCTs) and diodes. The impact of varying device characteristics on the stationary current distribution of parallel connected semi-conductors is investigated. Possible solutions to improve the current sharing at steady state are presented.

Performance characterization of integrated gate commutated thyristors

Conference Record of the 1999 IEEE Industry Applications Conference. Thirty-Forth IAS Annual Meeting (Cat. No.99CH36370), 2003
Power semiconductor devices that combine the technology of MOS turn-off and bipolar conduction have been introduced for operation at at high voltage and high current levels. Integrated gate commutated thyristor (IGCT) is a switching device based on the gate turn off thyristor.

Voltage sags mitigation with an integrated gate commutated thyristor based dynamic voltage restorer

8th International Conference on Harmonics and Quality of Power. Proceedings (Cat. No.98EX227), 2002
Voltage sags mitigation in distribution networks plays an important role in the improvement of power supply quality. Dynamic voltage restorers (DVR), when installed between the supply and a critical load feeder, can compensate for voltage sags within 2-3 milliseconds.

A DC Hybrid Circuit Breaker With Ultra-Fast Contact Opening and Integrated Gate-Commutated Thyristors (IGCTs)

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2006
Air-magnetic circuit breakers are widely used for short-circuit protection in dc electric railways or industrial plants. The well-known drawbacks of these breakers are mainly a slow breaking action, a short lifetime, and high maintenance costs due to the destructive effects of the arc.

Integrated Gate Commutated Thyristor-Based Modular Multilevel Converters: A Promising Solution for High-Voltage dc Applications

IEEE Industrial Electronics Magazine, 2019
This article proposes that a modular multilevel converter (MMC) based on the integrated-gate commutated thyristor (IGCT) is a promising solution for future highvoltage dc (HVdc) applications. The system-level scheme and technical issues of the IGCT MMC are proposed, and the commutation behaviors of the IGCT and the snubber circuit in the MMC are ...
