Leaky-wave metasurfaces for integrated photonics

Nature Nanotechnology, 2022
Metasurfaces have been rapidly advancing our command over the many degrees of freedom of light; however, so far, they have been mostly limited to manipulating light in free space.

Miniature Otto Prism Coupler for Integrated Photonics

Laser & Photonics reviews, 2022
One of the main issues in integrated photonics is the coupling of free‐space or optical fiber radiation to waveguides on the photonic chip surface. The ideal coupler is miniature, highly efficient, and provides a large number of addressable devices. Here,

Dynamic photonic structure for integrated photonics

SPIE Proceedings, 2010
Based on the effects of photonic transitions, we show that a linear, broadband and nonreciprocal on-chip optical isolation can be accomplished by dynamic refractive index modulations. Such scheme allows for on-chip optical isolation using standard CMOS fabrication process.

Integrated-Photonics-Based Architectures for Polarization-Gradient and EIT Cooling of Trapped Ions

Frontiers in Optics + Laser Science 2022 (FIO, LS), 2022
We develop a framework for two advanced trapped-ion cooling schemes, polarization-gradient and electromagnetically-induced-transparency cooling, for 88Sr+ ions using a visible-wavelength integrated-photonics platform and present the design of the key ...

Silicon Photonics and Integrated Photonic Switches

2019 International Symposium on VLSI Technology, Systems and Application (VLSI-TSA), 2019
Silicon photonics has emerged as a promising solution to address the interconnect bottleneck in high performance computing (HPC) systems and data centers. Silicon photonics provides unprecedented I/O bandwidth, enabling ultrahigh aggregated bandwidth (~ 10 Tbps), high bandwidth density (~ Tbps/mm), and high energy efficiency (~ pJ/bit).

Photonic Integrated Circuits for microwave photonics

2010 IEEE International Topical Meeting on Microwave Photonics, 2010
InP-based Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs) have found applications in the telecommunication and sensing arena because they have offered improvements in cost and function as well as size, weight and power. For microwave photonics applications, it has been found that some analog functions such as optical-phase locked loops (OPLLs) can be greatly ...
