Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Conceptualizing the Zero-Energy Campus as a planning object: an integrated framework for Meso-Scale planning

open access: yesFrontiers of Urban and Rural Planning
This study addresses the persistent gap between city-scale carbon–neutral targets and operational spatial planning by conceptualizing the Zero-Energy Campus (ZEC) as a meso-scale planning object.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Spatial and temporal synchronization of water and energy systems: Towards a single integrated optimization model for long-term resource planning [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Energy, 2018
Feedback between the water and energy sectors exist across system life-cycles and link the resources both spatially and temporally. Tracking the impacts of policies made in one sector on the other can thus be complicated and several nexus methodologies have been developed to address these issues.

Peripheral lysosomes recruit PLEKHG3 to focal adhesions and restrain protrusion dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proximity‐dependent labeling at the LAMTOR complex revealed the Rho GEF PLEKHG3 as a lysosome‐proximal protein directing the study toward the influence of lysosome positioning on actin dynamics and cell motility. We show that PLEKHG3 colocalizes with lysosomes at focal adhesion sites and observe that forced peripheral dispersion of lysosomes hinders ...

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...

Exploring residents’ perspectives on local energy transition in Northern Netherlands

open access: yesInternational Journal of Urban Sustainable Development
Given the urgency of global energy transition, small- and medium-sized cities often undergo rapid changes. What is often missing, however, is a better understanding of how residents of those places perceive, and relate to the various aspects of local ...

Locating Optimization of an Integrated Energy Supply Centre in a Typical New District Based on the Load Density

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
In view of the obvious distinctions among energy utilization characteristics in various functional districts, a method for optimizing the location of an integrated energy system for a typical new district is proposed.
