A Case for an Historical Vice Epistemology

open access: yesHumana.Mente: Journal of Philosophical Studies, 2021
This paper encourages greater engagement between contemporary vice epistemology and the work of intellectual and social historians of the vices. I argue that studies of the nature and significance of epistemic vices and faliings can be enriched by ...

Using the VIA Classification to Advance a Psychological Science of Virtue

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2020
The VIA Classification of Character Strengths and Virtue has received substantial attention since its inception as a model of 24 dimensions of positive human functioning, but less so as a potential contributor to a psychological science on the nature of ...

A Physiological Microfluidic Blood–Brain‐Barrier Model for In Vitro Study of Nanoparticle Trafficking and Accumulation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A human microfluidic blood‐brain barrier (mBBB) model enables spatially resolved comparison of nanoparticle trafficking. Extracellular vesicles (EVs), liposomes, and nanoplastics exhibit distinct transport and disruption behaviors, revealing that membrane composition and uptake pathways govern BBB interaction.

On the Nature of Intellectual Vice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Vice epistemology, as Quassim Cassam understands it, is the study of the nature, identity, and significance of the epistemic vices. But what makes an intellectual vice a vice?

Biogerontology and the Intellectual Virtues [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journals of Gerontology Series A: Biological Sciences and Medical Sciences, 2012
The case for prioritizing the study of the biology of aging can be persuasively made by making explicit its connection to the exercise of the intellectual virtues needed to realize well-ordered science. These intellectual virtues include a range of attitudes and dispositions integral to all areas of science (e.g. sensitivity to details, adaptability of

A Data Driven Review of In Vitro Electrical and Mechanical Stimulation for Post‐Acute Phase Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This review examines how in vitro electrical and mechanical stimulation modulates wound healing in fibroblasts and keratinocytes. Analyzing over 560 experimental data points, we relate stimulation parameters to proliferation and migration outcomes, evaluate platform designs, and highlight the need for multi‐parameter optimization to advance targeted ...

The consciousness of virtue: uncovering the gaps between educational specialists and the general public in their understanding of virtue in Japan

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology
Virtue is a normative concept that constitutes social and moral codes. The notion of virtue can be identified in both the West and the East. Since this concept was revived in academia in the 20th century after a long sinking into oblivion, contemporary ...

Radical Scepticism and the Epistemology of Confusion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The lack of knowledge—as Timothy Williamson (2000) famously maintains—is ignorance. Radical sceptical arguments, at least in the tradition of Descartes, threaten universal ignorance.

3D Anodic Alumina Nanoarchitectures: A Decade of Progress from Foundational Science to Functional Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ordered three‐dimensional anodic aluminum oxide (3D‐AAO) nanoarchitectures with longitudinal and transverse pores enable architecture‐driven metamaterials. The review maps fabrication advances, including hybrid pulse anodization, and shows how 3D‐AAO templates tailor properties across magnetism, energy, catalysis, and sensing.
