Comprehensive Health Predictors of Injury, Illness, and Separation From Service After Enrollment in Special Forces Assessment and Selection: A Two‐Year Longitudinal Study

open access: yesStress and Health, Volume 42, Issue 5, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Individuals in physically and cognitively demanding professions face increased risk of injury, illness, and attrition due to repeated exposure to physical and psychological stressors. Identifying modifiable factors associated with these outcomes can guide risk mitigation strategies.

Structural Quotient (SQ) — Definition and Measurement — An Intelligence Metric Beyond IQ

open access: yes

Long‐Term Neurodevelopmental Outcome Following Three Randomized Controlled Trials of Choline in Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)

open access: yesAlcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research, Volume 50, Issue 10, October 2026.
This manuscript describes a 5‐year longitudinal follow‐up study of children with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) who took part in one of three randomized controlled trials of choline supplementation when they were 2.5–5.9 years old. Results demonstrate that early choline supplementation improves long‐term non‐verbal IQ and working memory and ...

Prenatal opioid exposure, and health, social and educational outcomes for school‐aged children: A systematic review

open access: yesAddiction, Volume 121, Issue 10, Page 2633-2645, October 2026.
Abstract Background and aims Recent decades have seen a rise in the number of pregnancies exposed to opioids. Whilst evidence of the impact of such exposure on pregnancy and infant outcomes is fairly robust, the impact of prenatal opioid exposure (POE) on longer‐term outcomes for children and young people remains unclear.

Mismatch Responses to Prosodic Changes in Children With Developmental Language Disorder: A Longitudinal Approach

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neuroscience, Volume 64, Issue 7, October 2026.
This longitudinal study examined the maturation of mismatch responses to prosodic changes in preschool children with and without developmental language disorder. For duration discrimination, an early positive mismatch response diminished while a subsequent negative mismatch response increased, with significant longitudinal changes observed only in ...

Motivational Biases in Go and Nogo Learning From Immediate Versus Delayed Feedback

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neuroscience, Volume 64, Issue 8, October 2026.
Motivational biases have been proposed to originate from the striatum, which is more strongly involved in learning from immediate than delayed feedback. Despite this presumed difference, motivational biases emerged during learning from both immediate and delayed feedback, suggesting they are a hardwired and robust hallmark of decision‐making.

Aging in Autism: An Event‐Related Potentials Study of Auditory Change Detection

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neuroscience, Volume 64, Issue 8, October 2026.
Automatic change detection (MMN) and preattentional processes (P3a) have been studied in autistic children and young adults, but little is known about how they evolve during aging. We examined MMN and P3a in autistic and nonautistic adults aged 20–69 years. Results show that the neural mechanisms underlying automatic change detection and preattentional

Retinopathy of Prematurity Is Associated With Reduced Thalamic Volume and Impaired Neurodevelopment. A Cohort Study

open access: yesJournal of Paediatrics and Child Health, Volume 62, Issue 10, Page 1931-1941, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a neurovascular disorder that may affect not only the retina but also the brain structures involved in visual processing. The relationship between ROP severity and the volumetric development of these regions remains unclear.
