Co-pyrolysis and combustion characteristics of polylactic acid and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene: insights into interactions, kinetics and synergistic effects

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry
Polylactic acid (PLA) and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) are the most commonly used filaments in 3D printing. To enable filament materials to withstand higher stresses, PLA and ABS are often blended (PLA/ABS).

Evaluation of an adaptive unstructured remeshing technique for integrated fluid-thermal-structural analysis [PDF]

open access: yes
An adaptive unstructured remeshing technique is evaluated for integrated fluid-thermal-structural analysis. The technique is combined with the finite element method to solve: (1) the Navier-Stokes equations for high-speed compressible flow; (2) the ...

Latent Heat Fluxes over Complex Terrain Measured by Airborne Water Vapour and Wind Lidars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The combination of a water vapour and a wind lidar on an aircraft is an interesting new tool that allows to measure latent heat flux profiles and to portray the small- to mesoscale variability beneath the aircraft trajectory with high accuracy and ...

Nitride‐Reinforced Metal Matrix Nanocomposite Powders Production by Plasma‐Assisted Thermochemical Treatment of Intermetallic Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes a new methodology for producing metal matrix nanocomposites in the solid state. The process involves the plasma‐assisted thermochemical treatment of metallic alloy powders. As a proof‐of‐concept, TiN nanoparticles are synthesized directly on the surface of FeTi intermetallic powder particles, enabling the development of the ...

Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

Update Heat Flow Density Map for Portugal [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
New thermal conductivity, heat production and temperature data obtained in Portugal were used to produce a new heat flow density map. Heat flow density values in Portugal vary between 42 and 115 mW/m2 and allow the extrapolation of temperatures to depths

Bimetallic (NiFe) and Trimetallic (NiFeCr) Nanoalloys from Metal Oxides Using a Microwave Hydrogen Plasma

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Bimetallic (NiFe) and trimetallic (NiFeCr) nanoalloys (NAs) are synthesized using corresponding oxide mixtures using microwave hydrogen plasma within a few milliseconds. The process simultaneously 1) reduces metal oxides to metals; 2) downsizes the particles from micrometers to nanometers; and 3) blends the metals to form NAs.
