Determination of local anode heat fluxes in high intensity, thermal arcs
IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1976A new method is presented suitable for measuring extremely high local heat fluxes on surfaces. The method is applied for measuring peak anode heat fluxes in 5 kA pulsed arcs using nitrogen and argon at 1 atm. as working gases and tungsten, molybdenum, copper, and titanium as anode materials.

Energy transport is considered in an intense flux tube on the Sun, with the aim of examining the role of various heating mechanisms and delineating their contributions to the energy budget. Radiative energy transport is modelled by solving the transfer equation in a generalised version of the Eddington approximation.

Waves on the surface of a vapor film under conditions of intensive heat fluxes
Physical Review E, 2008We investigate surface waves on the interface between a thin vapor film and a layer of liquid in the presence of a high steady heat flux. This problem arises when a metal surface heated to a high temperature is immersed into a cold liquid. The general boundary conditions, which take into account the temperature dependence of saturation pressure on the ...

Thermal and mechanical behaviour of diagnostic windows subjected to intense heat fluxes
Fusion Engineering and Design, 2000The diagnostic windows of a machine for thermonuclear fusion experiments are basically subjected to atmospheric pressure and thermal loads due to plasma radiation. The glass or ceramic windows capable of withstanding the expected design loads become critical components if a highly radiative plasma is present near the window, as experienced in RFX ...

Theoretical prediction of solar heat flux intensity on parabolic trough collector systems
Materials Today: Proceedings, 2020Abstract Wide spread utilization of solar energy can be reduce a significant portion of the conventional energy for the benefits of nation economy. The solar water heating systems are one of the popular devices to harness the sun radiation incident on the surface of earth at free of cost.

Explosive collapse of vapor film under conditions of intensive heat fluxes
High Temperature, 2007The stability is investigated (linear and nonlinear analysis) of the interface between a thin vapor film and a layer of liquid in the presence of a steady heat flux from a metal surface heated to a high temperature to the vapor film and then from vapor to subcooled liquid.

Abstract The existence of extensive precipitating anvil clouds in intense tropical convection suggests that vertical air motions associated with the anvil clouds play a significant role in the mass and heat budgets of these systems. This paper uses three different sets of assumptions about the water budget of an idealized mesoscale convective system to
