MRI intensity inhomogeneity correction by combining intensity and spatial information

Physics in Medicine and Biology, 2004
We propose a novel fully automated method for retrospective correction of intensity inhomogeneity, which is an undesired phenomenon in many automatic image analysis tasks, especially if quantitative analysis is the final goal. Besides most commonly used intensity features, additional spatial image features are incorporated to improve inhomogeneity ...

Intensity distribution for an inhomogeneous medium

Annual Meeting Optical Society of America, 1987
We model an inhomogeneous dielectric slab by a distribution of small dielectric boxes. A coherent scalar electromagnetic wave is incident on the dielectric slab, and it is transmitted or reflected at each interface. The contributions to first order in the index of refraction are summed, and diffraction in the material can be neglected.

Comments on an evolutionary intensity inhomogeneity correction algorithm

2008 IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation (IEEE World Congress on Computational Intelligence), 2008
We discuss some aspects of a well known algorithm for inhomogeneity intensity correction in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), the parametric bias correction (PABIC) algorithm. In this approach, the intensity inhomogeneity is modelled by a linear combination of 2D or 3D Legengre polynomials (computed as outer products of 1D polynomials).

Robust Model for Segmenting Images With/Without Intensity Inhomogeneities

IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2013
Intensity inhomogeneities and different types/levels of image noise are the two major obstacles to accurate image segmentation by region-based level set models. To provide a more general solution to these challenges, we propose a novel segmentation model that considers global and local image statistics to eliminate the influence of image noise and to ...

Review for Intensity Inhomogeneity Estimate Method

2011 Fourth International Conference on Information and Computing, 2011
Intensity in homogeneity is often encountered in MR imaging, and a number of techniques have been devised to correct this artifact. This paper attempts to review some of the recent developments in the mathematical methods of Intensity in homogeneity estimation.

Intensity inhomogeneity correction of MRI images using InhomoNet

Computerized Medical Imaging and Graphics, 2020
Intensity inhomogeneity is one of the major artifacts in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Bias field present in MRI images alters true pixel value and produces spurious varying pixel intensities. This artifact affects the diagnosis by radiologists in a detrimental manner and also degrades the performance of computer-aided diagnosis algorithms such as ...

Analysis of Field Intensity Distribution in Inhomogeneous Propagation Environment

2012 IEEE 26th International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications, 2012
This paper is concerned with an analysis of field distribution caused by sensor nodes located on inhomogeneous terrestrial surfaces. First, we introduce 1-ray and 2-rays models with two modification factors to estimate the field distribution in complicated natural environments. One of two factors is an amplitude modification and the other is a distance

Inhomogeneities in the Color and Intensity of the Rainbow

Journal of the Atmospheric Sciences, 1972
Abstract It has long been recognized that when the sun is low in the sky, the supernumerary bows disappear in the vertical portion of the rainbow. It is noted here that the red part of the rainbow also varies in intensity near the vertical portion of the bow. Both of these phenomena are ascribed to the nonspherical shape of large raindrops.

MRI intensity inhomogeneity correction based on similar points

2017 10th International Congress on Image and Signal Processing, BioMedical Engineering and Informatics (CISP-BMEI), 2017
Intensity inhomogeneity (IIH) in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) adversely affects image processing and image analysis. In this paper, we propose a novel surface fitting approach for intensity nonuniformity correction in MR images. In our method, pattern matching used in non-local means (NLM) algorithm are used to find voxels with similar structures ...

Correction of intensity inhomogeneity in MR images of vascular disease

2005 IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology 27th Annual Conference, 2005
We are involved in a comprehensive program to characterize atherosclerotic disease using multiple MR images having different contrast mechanisms (T1W, T2W, PDW, magnetization transfer, etc.) of human carotid and animal model arteries. We use specially designed intravascular and surface array coils that give high signal-to-noise but suffer from ...
