Inhomogeneity Effect on the Stress Intensity Factor

Journal of Composite Materials, 1987
In contrast to the macromechanical analysis in which a composite material is usually taken to be homogeneous, a simplified analysis model is proposed in this article to ex amine the inhomogeneity effect on the stress intensity factor of the crack embedded in a fiber-reinforced composite material.

Automated fat measurement and segmentation with intensity inhomogeneity correction

SPIE Proceedings, 2010
Adipose tissue (AT) content, especially visceral AT (VAT), is an important indicator for risks of many disorders, including heart disease and diabetes. Fat measurement by traditional means is often inaccurate and cannot separate subcutaneous and visceral fat.

Information-theory-based snake adapted to inhomogeneous intensity variations

Optics Letters, 2007
A new snake-based segmentation technique of a single object (simply connected) in the presence of inhomogeneous Gaussian noise is proposed, in which the mean in each region is modeled as a polynomial function of the coordinates and which is thus adapted to inhomogeneous illumination. It is shown that the minimization of the stochastic complexity of the

On the calculation of intensity in dispersive inhomogenous media in the ray approximation

Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. A. Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1982
Abstract The Hamilton-like equations of geometrical optics determine the rays of the relevant wavefield in the short wavelength limit. It is shown that, by appending a set of subsidiary equations, the associate intensity can be computed along each ray, as the ray itself is traced.

Bayesian Semiparametric Intensity Estimation for Inhomogeneous Spatial Point Processes

Biometrics, 2010
In this work we propose a fully Bayesian semiparametric method to estimate the intensity of an inhomogeneous spatial point process. The basic idea is to first convert intensity estimation into a Poisson regression setting via binning data points on a regular grid, and then model the log intensity semiparametrically using an adaptive version of Gaussian

Intense point explosion in a slightly inhomogeneous atmosphere

Combustion, Explosion and Shock Waves, 1986
The authors apply similarity theory and dimensional analysis to the problem of an intense point explosion and shock wave propagation in an inhomogeneous atmosphere using such parameters as density gradients, energy transfer, and the adiabatic index.

A model for microwave intensity propagation in an inhomogeneous medium

IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 1977
A combined analytic and phenomenological approach, utilizing Maxwell's equations in the Born approximation with radiative transfer theory, is used to describe the propagation of microwave intensity in a scattering medium characterized by three-dimensional random fluctuations in refractive index, as well as nonrandom variations in permittivity ...
