Efficacy and safety of intensity-modulated radiotherapy alone versus intensity-modulated radiotherapy plus chemotherapy for treatment of intermediate-risk nasopharyngeal carcinoma

open access: yesRadiation Oncology, 2020
Background This study directs to evaluate the efficacy and safety of intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) alone versus IMRT plus chemotherapy in intermediate-risk NPC (stage II and T3N0M0).

Advances in Intensity-Modulated Radiotherapy Delivery

open access: yes, 2008
Fixed-field intensity-modulated treatments, delivered by conventional linac-plus-multileaf systems, have rapidly become the most common form of IMRT. Several innovative alternative IMRT options are also now available, including tomotherapy, CyberKnife and jaws-only linacs. These innovative approaches have divergent rationales.

PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells enhances bortezomib sensitivity in multiple myeloma cells by altering their metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigated how PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) indirectly affects multiple myeloma (MM) cell metabolism and viability. Culturing MM cells in conditioned medium from PYCR1‐silenced BMSCs impaired oxidative phosphorylation and increased sensitivity to bortezomib.

Beam Orientation Optimization for Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy using Adaptive l1 Minimization

open access: yes, 2011
Beam orientation optimization (BOO) is a key component in the process of IMRT treatment planning. It determines to what degree one can achieve a good treatment plan quality in the subsequent plan optimization process.

Induction chemotherapy in the treatment of nasopharyngeal carcinoma: Clinical outcomes and patterns of care [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The role of induction chemotherapy in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) remains controversial. The primary aim of this study was to use the National Cancer Database to evaluate the patterns of care of induction chemotherapy in NPC and its impact on overall ...

Impact of adjuvant radiotherapy on the survival of women with optimally resected stage III endometrial cancer in the era of modern radiotherapy: a retrospective study

open access: yesRadiation Oncology, 2020
Background The optimal adjuvant treatment for stage III endometrial cancer in the era of modern radiotherapy remains undefined. We investigated the benefit of adjuvant radiotherapy for women who underwent optimal resection for stage III endometrial ...

Does CyberKnife improve dose distribution versus IMRT and VMAT on a linear accelerator in low-risk prostate cancer?

open access: yesRadiology and Oncology, 2022
Hypofractionated stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) for prostate cancer (PCa) can be delivered with the robot-assisted CyberKnife (CK) system or on a linear accelerator using dynamic intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) or volumetric arc ...

Dosimetric Comparison between 6MV Flattened Filter and Flattening Filter Free Photon Beams in the Treatment of Glioblastoma with IMRT Technique: A Treatment Planning Study [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Medical Physics, 2020
Introduction: The present study evaluated the dosimetric comparison between 6MV flattened filter (FF) and flattening filter-free (FFF) photon beams in intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) technique for the treatment of glioblastoma (GBM) patients.

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

Whole breast radiotherapy in prone and supine position: is there a place for multi-beam IMRT? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background: Early stage breast cancer patients are long-term survivors and finding techniques that may lower acute and late radiotherapy-induced toxicity is crucial.
