Fast, automated optimization of virtual monoenergetic images with the dual‐energy image synthesizer for cone‐beam CT

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Dual‐energy cone‐beam CT (DE‐CBCT) has become subject of recent interest due to the ability to produce virtual monoenergetic images (VMIs) with improved soft‐tissue contrast and reduced nonuniformity artifacts. However, efficient production and optimization of VMIs remains an under‐explored part of DE‐CBCT's application.

Surface dose analysis and dosimetric comparison of Halcyon versus Truebeam in breast cancer radiotherapy: An OSL dosimetry study

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Breast cancer is a neoplastic disease with high prevalence among women. Radiotherapy is one of the principal treatment modalities for this disease, but it poses significant challenges. This study aimed to compare and evaluate the technical and dosimetric performance of conventional C‐arm linac systems and a new design, Halcyon, in the ...

Physical restraints practice in adult intensive care units in Egypt.

open access: yesNursing and Health Sciences, 2013
Physical restraints are commonly used in intensive care units to reduce the risk of injury and ensure patient safety. However, there is still controversy regarding the practice of physical restraints in such units.

Open‐source deep‐learning models for segmentation of normal structures for prostatic and gynecological high‐dose‐rate brachytherapy: Comparison of architectures

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background The use of deep learning‐based auto‐contouring algorithms in various treatment planning services is increasingly common. There is a notable deficit of commercially or publicly available models trained on large or diverse datasets containing high‐dose‐rate (HDR) brachytherapy treatment scans, leading to poor performance on images ...

HOLMES: Health OnLine Model Ensemble Serving for Deep Learning Models in Intensive Care Units [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Deep learning models have achieved expert-level performance in healthcare with an exclusive focus on training accurate models. However, in many clinical environments such as intensive care unit (ICU), real-time model serving is equally if not more important than accuracy, because in ICU patient care is simultaneously more urgent and more expensive ...

Predictive validity of the Braden scale for patients in intensive care units.

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Critical Care, 2013
BACKGROUND Patients in intensive care units are at higher risk for development of pressure ulcers than other patients. In order to prevent pressure ulcers from developing in intensive care patients, risk for development of pressure ulcers must be ...

Novel CT radiomics models for the postoperative prediction of early recurrence of resectable pancreatic adenocarcinoma: A single‐center retrospective study in China

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To assess the predictive capability of CT radiomics features for early recurrence (ER) of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Methods Postoperative PDAC patients were retrospectively selected, all of whom had undergone preoperative CT imaging and surgery. Both patients with resectable or borderline‐resectable pancreatic cancer met
