The role of extensive and intensive margins and export growth [PDF]

open access: possibleJournal of Development Economics, 2011
Abstract We investigate and compare countries' export growth based on their performance at the extensive and intensive export margins. Our empirical approach is motivated by an extension to the Melitz (2003) model of heterogeneous firms in which exporters are subject to a one-time sunk cost and also a per-period fixed cost. With imperfect information

Extensive and intensive margins and exchange rate regimes

Canadian Journal of Economics/Revue canadienne d'économique, 2017
AbstractThis paper studies the costs and benefits of fixed and flexible exchange rate regimes in the presence of endogenous intensive and extensive margins of trade. The net benefit depends on the levels and volatilities of those margins as well as on their correlation with consumers’ preferences.

On the 'Hot Potato Effect' of Inflation: Intensive Versus Extensive Margins [PDF]

open access: possibleSSRN Electronic Journal, 2009
Conventional wisdom is that inflation makes people spend money faster, trying to get rid of it like a “hot potato,” and this is a channel through which inflation affects velocity and welfare. Monetary theory with endogenous search intensity seems ideal for studying this.

International Economic Review
AbstractWe study endogenous intermediation activity, the implied transaction pattern—direct trade, indirect trade, or both—and implications for efficiency. Related papers have agents exchanging indivisible goods or assets, capturing only extensive margins (trade frequency). To capture intensive margins, we incorporate divisibility representing quantity

Ethnic networks and trade: Intensive versus extensive margins

Economics Letters, 2011
Abstract Ethnic networks have been associated with increased international trade, although studies have not differentiated between entry into foreign markets and trade expansion. We find that ethnic networks increase trade on the intensive margin but not on the extensive margin.

[Intensive drug therapy of the marginal periodontium].

Deutsche zahnarztliche Zeitschrift, 1979
Two composite pastes composed of iodoformglycerin-tween 80 and tribromphenol-bismuth-glycerin were examined using the results of microbiologic studies. Because of their broad antimicrobial spectrum and their easy application, both pastes are suitable for primary control of bacteria in periodontal pockets, particularly when the complete picture of an ...
