Exosemiotics: an inter-disciplinary approach
Acta Astronautica, 2000Abstract Over the past several hundred years, many ideas have been expressed as to how human beings might communicate with extraterrestrials. These ideas have been put forth by experts from a diverse range of fields including physical scientists, mathematicians, behavioral scientists, philosophers and creative writers who have widely differing views ...

Blame it on Mad Men. All spring—I am writing this in 2015—I’ve been hearing that long withdrawing roar, the soundtrack of the 1960s receding into history, mostly for the better it seems, at least according to television. Inter‐disciplinary perspectives on processes in the hyporheic zone
Ecohydrology, 2010AbstractThe interface between groundwater and surface water within riverine/riparian ecosystems—the hyporheic zone (HZ)—is experiencing a rapid growth of research interest from a range of scientific disciplines, often with different perspectives. The majority of the multi‐disciplinary research aims to elucidate HZ process dynamics and their importance ...

Inter-Disciplinary Clinical Teaching
1997Students tend to hear similar, although at times conflicting, messages about clinical issues from Faculty in each medical discipline (e.g. internal medicine, surgery and psychiatry) as they rotate through clinical departments. This paper reports an initiative in a new clinical school in a regional hospital, in which clinical departments (including ...

Software engineering theory and inter-disciplinary research
Proceedings of the 2006 international workshop on Workshop on interdisciplinary software engineering research, 2006This paper outlines the content of the workshop keynote presentation on the use of theory derived from other disciplines in empirical software engineering research. This presentation uses three previous studies, two of which involved the author, to illustrate this usage and to explore the lessons learned from this work.

An inter-disciplinary approach to design
The doctoral research study referred to in this paper is the fusion of two disciplines that have both been instrumental in creating an environmentally conscious product. Inter-disciplinary studies in the field of materials science and industrial design converge with the aim to help push each discipline further in the pursuit for advanced knowledge in ...Gutowski, Voytek +3 more

Exemplifying the Inter-Disciplinary Nature of Visualization Research
2007 11th International Conference Information Visualization (IV '07), 2007This paper proposes an interdisciplinary design process for the development of novel visualization techniques and discusses requirements for ensuring that such a process results in effective techniques which meet the demands of a the target user base. In essence, we are attempting to make explicit the process by which many researchers implicitly design
