SummaryIn super high‐rise buildings with varying story heights, the wind‐induced inter‐story drifts might violate the specified limit. However, these effects have seldom been concerned in wind‐induced response analysis. The theory and application of equivalent static wind load (ESWL) for wind‐induced inter‐story drifts of super high‐rise buildings were

Abstract An evaluation of some structural parameters affecting the amplitude and height-wise distribution of peak and residual drift demands of reinforced concrete frame buildings modeled as 3D complex MDOF systems is presented. In addition, the influence of different ground motion selection methods on the uncertainty in the estimation of both peak ...

This article attempts to study the effect of various pulse-like ground motion parameters and local site conditions on the linear response of different multi-story buildings with special shear and flexural behaviour. The multi-story buildings are modelled using a combination of a shear and flexural beams with representative lateral stiffness ratios.

Abstract In this paper, a seismic design procedure aimed at achieving uniform inter-story drift in multistory tension-only concentrically braced beam-through frames (TOCBBTFs) is presented. The TOCBBTF is designed so that the columns and beams would remain elastic for their negligible lateral stiffness while tension-only concentric braces resist all ...

Abstract Earthquakes can cause the unexpected failure of buildings and other structures, and numerous experimental methods have been devised to estimate structural integrity and the likelihood of failure. Unfortunately, the retrofitting of old structures by attaching sensors within walls and columns can be prohibitively expensive, and the analysis of

Abstract This paper investigates a new seismic rehabilitation technology for low-rise and mid-rise steel Concentrically Braced Frames (CBFs) vulnerable to inter-story drift concentration and soft-story failures. The technology consists of installation of a single or multiple sufficient Rocking Cores (RCs) pinned to the foundation and connected to an ...

EMPIRICAL-BASED METHOD FOR PREDICTING RESIDUAL INTER-STORY-DRIFT FROM MEASURED ACCELERATIONS
An empirical-based method was proposed for predicting the interstory drift time history with residual trend from the measured acceleration responses. The residual interstory drift is predicted by the proposed equation for the used accelerometer which uses a low-passed filtered relative acceleration shift as a predictor. The shaking table test data of aopenaire +1 more source
