Reliable Drift of Diagrid Tall Buildings due to Seismic Load

open access: yesApplications of Modelling and Simulation, 2020
Diagrid structures have become a favorable structural system because of their efficiency in resisting lateral and gravity loads. In addition, they save huge amounts of steel material in the design and construction of tall buildings.

Selected inversion as key to a stable Langevin evolution across the QCD phase boundary

open access: yes, 2017
We present new results of full QCD at nonzero chemical potential. In PRD 92, 094516 (2015) the complex Langevin method was shown to break down when the inverse coupling decreases and enters the transition region from the deconfined to the confined phase.

Dynamic Characteristics of Woodframe Buildings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The dynamic properties of wood shearwall buildings were evaluated, such as modal frequencies, damping and mode shapes of the structures. Through analysis of recorded earthquake response and by forced vibration testing, a database of periods and damping ...

Experimental investigation of the infill response under the inter-story drift level for different opening location

open access: yesJournal of Engineering Researcher and Lecturer
This paper investigates the response of infilled frames associated with inter-story drift ratio considering the central and eccentric window opening under the in-plane force. The behavior of the structure was studied by experimental and numerical approach.

Balance sheet capacity and endogenous risk [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Banks operating under Value-at-Risk constraints give rise to a welldefined aggregate balance sheet capacity for the banking sector as a whole that depends on total bank capital.

Comparing Hysteretic Energy and inter-story drift in steel frames with V-shaped brace under near and far fault earthquakes

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal, 2018
Different researches have shown that during destructive earthquakes, most structures enter non-reactionary range. Hysteretic Energy, which is wasted after the yield within its hysteresis rings, is very influential on generating structural damage of the ...

Charney Hall Redesign Using Cross-Laminated Timber [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Santa Clara University’s new law building, Charney Hall, was constructed in 2018 using steel and concrete, but was redesigned by this team using Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) and Glue- Laminated Timber (glulams).

"Thermometers" of Speculative Frenzy

open access: yes, 2000
Establishing unambiguously the existence of speculative bubbles is an on-going controversy complicated by the need of defining a model of fundamental prices.

Mitigating inter-story drift concentration in seismic-resistant self-centering braced frames by using strong backup systems

open access: yesBulletin of Earthquake Engineering
AbstractSeismic-resistant self-centering concentrically braced frames (SC-CBFs) are susceptible to the concentration of inter-story drifts during earthquakes owing to the relatively low energy dissipation ability of braces. To address this limitation, this study proposed a novel solution by designing a strong backup (SB) system to mitigate inter-story ...
