Structural and Morphological Properties of Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies at 1 < z < 3
Using the Hubble Space Telescope (HST)/Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3) near-infrared high-resolution imaging from the 3D-HST survey, we analyze the morphology and structure of 502 ultraluminous infrared galaxies (ULIRGs; LIR > 1012L⊙) at 1 < z < 3. Their rest-

Panchromatic Photometry of Low-redshift, Massive Galaxies Selected from SDSS Stripe 82
The broadband spectral energy distribution of a galaxy encodes valuable information on its stellar mass, star formation rate (SFR), dust content, and possible fractional energy contribution from nonstellar sources.

Dynamics of Galaxy Interactions [PDF]
This review briefly and very informally summarizes some of my ongoing research. One unifying theme in my work is the use of computers to bridge the gap between human and astronomical time-scales. Galactic collisions are an example; the dynamics of interacting galaxies can be visualized with numerical simulations.

Playing Hard with Si: Challenges and Opportunities for New Materials in Radiation Therapy Dosimetry
Silicon has been a cornerstone material of radiation therapy dosimetry for many decades, providing somewhat unchallenged performance. However, there are caveats to its use, requiring complex designs and, often, correction factors to provide accurate measurements.

EXTENDED Lyα EMISSION FROM INTERACTING GALAXIES AT HIGH REDSHIFTS [PDF]
Recent observations have discovered a population of extended Lyα sources, dubbed Lyα blobs (LABs), at high redshift z ∼ 2–6.6. These LABs typically have a luminosity of L ∼ 1042–1044 erg s−1, and a size of tens of kiloparsecs, with some giant ones ...

This article introduces a soft wearable eyelid sling device incorporating a hydraulic soft artificial muscle (SAM) for achieving complete closure of an eyelid. The SAM is driven by a cam mechanism that provides a displacement profile closely matched with those of a healthy eyelid.

Comparative internal kinematics of the H II regions in interacting and isolated galaxies : implications for massive star formation modes [PDF]
We have observed 12 interacting galaxy pairs using the Fabry-Perot interferometer GH αFaS (GalaxyHα Fabry-Perot system) on the 4.2-mWilliam Herschel Telescope at theObservatorio del Roque de los Muchachos, La Palma.

Discovery of a Rare Group of Dwarf Galaxies in the Local Universe
We report the discovery of a rare isolated group of five dwarf galaxies located at z = 0.0086 ( D = 36 Mpc). All member galaxies are star forming, blue, and gas rich, with g − r indices ranging from 0.2 to 0.6 mag, and two of them show signs of ongoing ...

Dust Deficiency in the Interacting Galaxy NGC 3077
Using 70 μ m observations taken with the PACS instrument of the Herschel space telescope, the dust content of the nearby and interacting spiral galaxy NGC 3077 has been compared with the dust content of the isolated galaxies such as NGC 2841, NGC ...

The Nature of LoBAL QSOs. II. HST/WFC3 Observations Reveal Host Galaxies Dominated by Mergers
Low-ionization broad absorption line QSOs (LoBALs) are suspected to be merging systems in which extreme, active galactic nucleus-driven outflows have been triggered.
