AGNs and galaxy interactions

open access: yes, 2007
We perform a statistical analysis of AGN host characteristics and nuclear activity for AGNs in pairs and without companions. Our study concerns a sample of AGNs derived from the SDSS-DR4 data by Kauffmann et al (2003) and pair galaxies obtained from the same data set by Alonso et al. (2006).

Germanium‐Based Mid‐Infrared Integrated Photonics

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
The mid‐infrared (mid‐IR) spectral range is a part of the electromagnetic spectrum in which most of the molecules have vibrational and rotational resonances. Photonics integration in this wavelength range have thus seen a burst of interest in the recent years, mainly driven by applications related with the detection of chemical and biological ...

A Fast Radio Burst in a Compact Galaxy Group at z ∼ 1

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
FRB 20220610A is a high-redshift fast radio burst (FRB) that has not been observed to repeat. Here, we present rest-frame UV and optical Hubble Space Telescope observations of the field of FRB 20220610A. The imaging reveals seven extended sources, one of

Patterns of wild meat and other protein consumption in the periphery of Salonga National Park, Democratic Republic of the Congo

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract In Central Africa, human activities are severely impacting terrestrial and aquatic wildlife, threatening the food security of millions of people. Accordingly, sustainable use of wildlife is crucial for the nutrition and livelihoods of many rural communities in the region.

Galaxy Protoclusters as Drivers of Cosmic Reionization: I. Bubble Overlap at Redshift z ∼ 7 in LAGER-z7OD1

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Since the launch of JWST, the sample size of reionization-era Ly α emitters (LAEs) has been steadily growing; yet inferences about the neutral hydrogen fraction in the intergalactic medium exhibit increasing variance at redshift z ≈ 7, possibly ...

Large Distance Modification of Newtonian Potential and Structure Formation in Universe

open access: yes, 2017
In this paper, we study the effects of super-light brane world perturbative modes on structure formation in our universe. As these modes modify the large distance behavior of Newtonian potential, they effect the clustering of a system of galaxies. So, we

Discovery of Giant Bubbles in the Hot Gaseous Halo of the Massive Disk Galaxy NGC 6286

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Based on archival Chandra X-ray observation, optical integral-field spectroscopic data, and radio interferometric data, we report the discovery of a pair of giant bubbles (with a projected radius ∼5 kpc) of ionized gas emerging from a highly inclined ...
