Saving Bambi from the mower? Using a drone with thermal camera to evaluate a low‐tech scaring technique to reduce roe deer fawn mortality during grass harvest

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Roe deer is a species that hides their neonates as an anti‐predator strategy. This may prove efficient against mammalian predators, such as the red fox; however, it might be an ecological trap as large numbers of fawns are killed by tractors with harvesters each year during grass harvest.

Living with Neighbors. VI. Unraveling the Dual Impact of Bars on Star Formation in Paired Galaxies Using DESI

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present a comprehensive investigation into the influence of stellar bars on star formation (SF) in galaxy pairs, using a large sample of low-redshift galaxies (0.02 < z < 0.08) from the DESI Legacy Imaging Surveys Data Release 8. Our analysis examines

Radiation‐Induced Degradation in Polymeric Materials: Alterations in Physical–Chemical Properties and Their Effects on Electrical Performance of Insulation Systems

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper investigates the effects of radiation on polymeric materials used as insulation systems in electrical equipment such as cables for nuclear and particle accelerator applications. After a detailed description of the physics of radiation‐induced damage in the polymeric matrix, a comprehensive analysis of the physical–chemical and ...

The molecular gas content throughout the low-z merger sequence

open access: yesThe Open Journal of Astrophysics
Exploiting IRAM 30 m CO spectroscopy, we find that SDSS post-merger galaxies display gas fractions and depletion times enhanced by 25-50\%, a mildly increased CO excitation, and standard molecular-to-atomic gas ratios, compared to non-interacting ...

Quantifying the FIR interaction enhancement in paired galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes
The Catalog of Isolated Pairs of Galaxies in the Northern Hemisphere, by Karachentsev (1972), was studied and a well-matched comparison sample taken from the Catalog of Isolated Galaxies, by Karachentseva (1973), in order to quantify the enhanced FIR ...

Bulbil formation in stress: Crucial role of triploid fitness in mixed ploidy dynamics in Costus speciosus

open access: yesPlant Species Biology, EarlyView.
Upon prolonged waterlogging, a Costus speciosus plant developed bulbils at stem node. Karyotype analysis, nucleolar staining, and anatomical study revealed its triploid status and developmental aspects. Prevalence of tetraploid, abundance, and unique reproductive fecundity of the triploid, indicates its determinant role in coexistence of the multiple ...

‘FROM GHETTO TO HABITUS FACTORY’ ROMA CAMPS IN ITALY: An Empirical Extension of Loïc Wacquant's Theorization

open access: yesInternational Journal of Urban and Regional Research, EarlyView.
Abstract In this article we apply Wacquant's conceptualization of the ghetto to an analysis of interviews conducted with Roma people living in the state‐enforced camps of Turin, Italy. We illustrate how the elements characterizing a ghetto according to Wacquant (i.e.

The Complex Multiwavelength Morphology of the Peculiar Compact Galaxy Group IC 2431

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present new Chandra X-ray imaging spectroscopy of the compact galaxy group IC 2431, and compare with archival ultraviolet, optical, infrared, and radio images. IC 2431 is a starburst system containing three tidally distorted disk galaxies.
