Effect of the Environment on the Fundamental Plane of Elliptical Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We present an analysis of interacting E/S0 galaxies location on the Fundamental Plane. Using the NEMO package, we performed N-body simulations of close encounters and mergers between two spherical galaxies.

Bar-spheroid interaction in galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1992
The secular evolution of barred galaxies is explored using N-body simulation and linear analysis. In particular, we examine the interaction between bars and spheroidal components of galaxies. According to our calculations, this interaction drives secular transfer of angular momentum from bars to spheroids, primarily through resonant coupling.

Cosmic-Ray Propagation and Interactions in the Galaxy [PDF]

open access: yesAnnual Review of Nuclear and Particle Science, 2007
We survey the theory and experimental tests for the propagation of cosmic rays in the Galaxy up to energies of 1015eV. A guide to the previous reviews and essential literature is given, followed by an exposition of basic principles. The basic ideas of cosmic-ray propagation are described, and the physical origin of its processes is explained.

The Larson-Tinsley Effect in the UV: Interacting vs. `Normal' Spiral Galaxies

open access: yes, 2010
We compare the UV-optical colors of a well-defined set of optically-selected pre-merger interacting galaxy pairs with those of normal spirals. The shorter wavelength colors show a larger dispersion for the interacting galaxies than for the spirals.

Possible Breaking of the FIR-Radio Correlation in Tidally Interacting Galaxies

open access: yes, 2015
Far-infrared (FIR)--radio correlation is a well-established empirical connection between continuum radio and dust emission of star-forming galaxies, often used as a tool in determining star-formation rates.

Interacting galaxies and cosmological parameters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We propose a (physical)-geometrical method to measure the present rates of the density cosmological parameters for a Friedmann-Lemaitre universe. The distribution of linear separations between two interacting galaxies, when both of them undergo a first ...

Self‐Powered Flexible Triboelectric‐Gated Ion‐Gel Transistor for Neuromorphic Tactile Sensing and Human Activity Recognition

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A fully flexible ion‐gel‐gated graphene‐channel transistor driven by a triboelectric nanogenerator enables self‐powered tactile sensing and synaptic learning. Mimicking spike‐rate‐dependent plasticity, the device exhibits frequency‐selective potentiation and depression, supporting rate‐coded neuromorphic computation even under flex.

Radio Diagnostics Of Galaxy Interactions [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1999
The Hickson Compact Groups (Hickson 1982) are relatively isolated systems of galaxies with projected separations comparable to the diameters of the galaxies themselves and are an ideal laboratory for the study of the effects of interactions on the various properties of galaxies.
