Structure of interacting elliptical radio galaxies
Astrophysics and Space Science, 1993We have used a numerical method based on elliptical fitting of isophotes to analyse the structural parameters of three pairs of elliptical galaxies containing radio jets. The relationship between tidal interactions and radio activity is also investigated.

Interacting galaxies and mergers
Astrophysics and Space Science, 1993A study of the merger time-scales of various types of interacting galaxies is conducted on the basis of the collisional theory. The results indicate that in the absence of halos, violently interacting galaxies merge in a time-scale of ~ 108 years; but the mildly interacting ones have merger time-scales from ~ 109 to 1010 years. However, in the presence

Galaxy‐galaxy interactions as triggers of star formation
Astronomische Nachrichten, 2009AbstractGalaxy‐galaxy interactions represent the main physical processes that trigger substantial star formation in galaxies. In order to study the galaxy interactions effects on color and morphology of the galaxies in the fields of two radio galaxies at z ∼ 1, we combined optical‐NIR photometry and HST/WFPC2 morphology data from the Stanford et al ...

Tidal interactions between galaxies
2005The basic properties of galaxies and simple models of their formation are discussed and different types of interaction between galaxies are described. The dynamics of galactic interactions, statistical approaches and model calculations are reviewed and the significance of interactions in the evolution of galaxies is presented.

Starbursts in interacting galaxies
2008We first review the evidence for IR activity in interacting and merging galaxies, based on 10 and 20 µm observations. We then investigate the ‘starbursts vs. monsters’ explanations for the energy source powering the IR activity in these galaxies. Using available IR photometry, and IR, optical, and ultraviolet spectroscopy, we show that, in general, a ...
