Saving Bambi from the mower? Using a drone with thermal camera to evaluate a low‐tech scaring technique to reduce roe deer fawn mortality during grass harvest

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Roe deer is a species that hides their neonates as an anti‐predator strategy. This may prove efficient against mammalian predators, such as the red fox; however, it might be an ecological trap as large numbers of fawns are killed by tractors with harvesters each year during grass harvest.

Ultra Light Axionic Dark Matter: Galactic Halos and Implications for Observations with Pulsar Timing Arrays

open access: yesGalaxies, 2018
The cold dark matter (CDM) paradigm successfully explains the cosmic structure over an enormous span of redshifts. However, it fails when probing the innermost regions of dark matter halos and the properties of the Milky Way’s dwarf galaxy satellites ...

Interacting Galaxies with MOND

open access: yes, 2007
We compare N-body simulations performed in MOND with analogs in Newtonian gravity with dark matter (DM). We have developed a code which solves the Poisson equation in both gravity models. It is a grid solver using adaptive mesh refinement techniques, allowing us to study isolated galaxies as well as interacting galaxies.

Preserving evidence integrity in full file system extractions: Assessing hash inconsistencies and potential solutions

open access: yesJournal of Forensic Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract Smartphone manufacturers' enhanced privacy and security measures, such as File‐Based Encryption (FBE), have disrupted traditional data extraction techniques, necessitating the adoption of Full File System Extraction (FFS). FFS requires booting a smartphone, decrypting its UserData partition, and accessing files individually, a process that ...

Lyman continuum escaping from in situ formed stars in a tidal bridge at z = 3

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
We present an analysis of archival JWST NIRSpec IFS and HST imaging observations of the z = 3 Lyman continuum emitter (LCE) candidate LACES104037. We show that a nearby galaxy, denoted LACES104037-S, has a redshift offset from the main galaxy by only ...

Response of Fecal Bacteria and Fungi to Tannin‐Rich Diets in Sika Deer (Cervus nippon): Evidence from Both Feeding Experiments and Field Investigations

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Feeding with tannin‐rich diets altered the fecal microbial composition and increased the relative abundance of tannin‐degrading microbes. We hypothesize that fecal bacteria and fungi may play important roles in helping herbivores adapt to tannin‐rich diets but respond to different tannin concentrations varies.

Story2Board: A Training‐Free Approach for Expressive Visual Storytelling

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract We present Story2Board, a training‐free framework for expressive storyboard generation from natural language. Existing methods narrowly focus on subject identity, overlooking key aspects of visual storytelling such as spatial composition, background evolution, and narrative pacing.

DiskScissors: Cutting Arbitrary‐Topology Solids for Bijective Mapping

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract An algorithm for cutting solid objects in a topology‐controlled manner is presented. Concretely, given a loop on the object boundary, a disk‐topology cut surface bounded by the loop is constructed in the interior. In contrast to various previous approaches, both disk topology and conformance to the prescribed loop are ensured by construction ...

A Fast Radio Burst in a Compact Galaxy Group at z ∼ 1

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
FRB 20220610A is a high-redshift fast radio burst (FRB) that has not been observed to repeat. Here, we present rest-frame UV and optical Hubble Space Telescope observations of the field of FRB 20220610A. The imaging reveals seven extended sources, one of

Inhibition of Ornithine Decarboxylase 1 Mitigates Denervation‐Induced Muscle Atrophy by Suppressing Proteolysis and Preserving Muscle Stem Cell Homeostasis

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
Polyamine metabolism is innervation responsive and involved in denervation‐induced muscle atrophy. Inhibition of polyamine metabolism attenuates muscle atrophy by restraining proteolysis and preserving MuSCs homeostasis. Denervation‐induced activation of FAP‐derived FGF7 drives premature MuSCs activation, while DFMO suppresses this paracrine cue to ...
