Sensing Interactions in Atomic Quantum Systems

Hybrid ion-atom systems combine the well-controllable platforms of trapped ions and ultracold quantum gases and link them together by the intermediate-range ion-atom interaction. These quantum systems offer opportunities for b uffer gas cooling, quantum simulation of manybody systems, as well as state-to-state quantum chemistry [1].

Generalised quantum dynamics and interaction of atoms with quantum fields

2006
We investigate the effects of the nonlocality in time of the effective interaction of atoms with quantum fields, arising after integrating out certain degrees of freedom. We show that these effects can be described, in a natural way, within the formalism of the generalized quantum dynamics developed in [J. Phys. A 32, 5657 (1999)].

Quantum interactions of atoms with designed environments

The theory of quantum electrodynamics (QED) describes the intricacies of atom-light interactions with great accuracy, however, viewing a system via fully-microscopic lens can in certain instances be counter-productive. For example, we can consider a quantum system (containing atoms) which encounters a macroscopic surface (made of astronomical number of
