Explainable, Uncertainty‐Aware Machine Learning for Maize Land Suitability and Climate Resilience in Lorestan Province, Western Iran

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Maize (Zea mays L.) is strategically important in Iran, yet its cultivation in the semi‐arid Zagros is constrained by limited and variable water, heat stress and heterogeneous soils, while conventional suitability assessments are deterministic, rarely validated spatially and provide no measure of confidence.

Interannual variability of United States cloudiness

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae
United States cloudiness data for 1950–1992 show quasi-biennial (QBO) and quasi-triennial (QTO) oscillations which match partly with the QBO and QTO of the Southern Oscillation (SO) index (the Tahiti minus Darwin pressure), but not with the QBO of the 50-

Is DNA metabarcoding an option for formaldehyde‐preserved zooplankton time series?

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography: Methods, EarlyView.
Abstract The recovery of amplifiable DNA from formaldehyde‐fixed (FF) zooplankton samples has long been considered problematic, but advances in degraded‐DNA retrieval have renewed interest in FF samples. To access the information stored in long‐term zooplankton time series, we evaluated methods for extracting amplifiable DNA from community samples ...

Pathways to care in pinyon–juniper woodlands: Insights from Indigenous‐led monitoring and a public survey

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract Conservation decisions often require navigating tensions among ecological, cultural, economic and social priorities. While debates frequently centre on single‐species outcomes, less is known about how care for landscapes may contribute to co‐stewardship.

Precision agriculture for water saving: The case of processing tomato and table grape

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Agriculture faces increasing pressure to produce high‐quality food while reducing water use under intensifying climate change and water scarcity. This study compared sensor‐based precision irrigation, drone monitoring, and near‐infrared spectroscopy with conventional farmer management in table grape and processing tomato production systems.

Regional analysis of spatiotemporal trends in Colorado potato beetle abundance

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Leveraging a large data set on Colorado potato beetles in Wisconsin, we examine spatial and temporal abundance trends. Spatiotemporal statistical models substantially improve fit and show that climate and management factors are positively associated with abundance levels.
