Biological intercalibration: Invertebrates 2017 [PDF]
The 21th intercalibration of invertebrates in the ICP Waters programme had contribution from four laboratories. The biological intercalibration is important for harmonizing taxonomic work across countries and will be of high value for programmes where ...

Aligning Pixel Values of DMSP and VIIRS Nighttime Light Images to Evaluate Urban Dynamics
The brightness of pixels in nighttime light images (NTL) has been regarded as the proxy of the urban dynamics. However, the great difference between the pixel values of NTL from the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program’s Operational Linescan ...

Intercalibration of selected anthropogenic radionuclides for the GEOTRACES Program [PDF]
As part of the GEOTRACES Program, six laboratories participated in an intercalibration exercise on several anthropogenic radionuclides of interest. The effort was successful for 239,240Pu activity, 240Pu/239Pu isotope ratio, and 137Cs activity measured in filtered seawater samples from the Bermuda Atlantic Time Series station (BATS) and a site on the ...

The Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC (WFD) and the Nature Restoration Regulation (EU) 2024/1991 (NRR) both require Member States to restore freshwater ecosystems. This study analyzes how these two instruments interact, identifying both synergies and conflicts.

First intercalibration of column-averaged methane from the Total Carbon Column Observing Network and the Network for the Detection of Atmospheric Composition Change [PDF]
We present the first intercalibration of dry-air column-averaged mole fractions of methane (XCH4) retrieved from solar Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) measurements of the Network for the Detection of Atmospheric Composition ...

Abstract This study examines how the Russo‐Ukrainian war affected natural gas consumption and air quality in northern Italy. The conflict disrupted European natural gas supplies, leading to a reduction in residential natural gas use. We investigated how this reduction affected air quality, focusing on residential wood combustion (RWC) as an alternative

Intercalibration of the national classifications of ecological status for Eastern Continental lakes: Biological Quality Element: Phytoplankton [PDF]
The European Water Framework Directive (WFD) requires the national classifications of good ecological status to be harmonised through an intercalibration exercise. In this exercise, significant differences in status classification among Member States are

Calculating a minimum overlap period for successful intercalibration of soil moisture sensors
Long‐term in situ soil moisture monitoring inevitably requires sensors to be replaced. Ensuing discontinuities in the data record can be mitigated by intercalibration, however it is unclear how long the existing sensor needs to remain alongside the newly

Does vertical wind shear increase tropical cyclone rain?
A 26‐year modern precipitation dataset is used to systematically assess tropical cyclone (TC) rainfall responses to vertical wind shear (VWS). VWS enhances rainfall volume in TCs by up to 23%, despite reducing storm intensity, revealing a trade‐off where VWS mitigates wind damage but potentially amplifies flood risk.
