Accelerated Ferrite-to-Austenite Transformation During Intercritical Annealing of Medium-Manganese Steels Due to Cold-Rolling

open access: yesMetals, 2019
Prior cold deformation is known to influence the ferrite-to-austenite (α → γ) transformation in medium-manganese (Mn) steels that occurs during intercritical annealing.

Internal Oxidation during Intercritical Annealing of CMnSi TRIP Steel

open access: yesISIJ International, 2009
The equilibrium internal oxidation of CMnSi TRIP steel at intercritical annealing temperatures in a +3°C dew point N2+10%H2 atmosphere was investigated by means of high resolution transmission electron microscopy of cross-sectional samples. The experimental conditions are considered to lead to the selective internal oxidation of Mn and Si.

Effect of intercritical annealing with high cooling rate associated with cold deformation and subcritical annealing on microstructure and mechanical properties of SAE 52100

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2020
Conventional spheroidization heat treatments of bearing steels are long-term, therefore it is necessary to study alternatives to decrease the heat treatment time to save energy consumption. This work aimed to develop a new manufacturing route in order to

Alternative Approach for the Intercritical Annealing of (Cr, Mo, V)-Alloyed TRIP-Assisted Steel before Austempering

open access: yesMetals, 2022
TRIP-assisted C-Si-Mn steels are usually subjected to austempering with a preliminary intercritical annealing that is targeted at the multi-phase structure with 40–60 vol.% of proeutectoid ferrite.

Transformations during Intercritical Annealing of a TRIP-assisted Steel.

open access: yesISIJ International, 1998
During intercritical annealing of cold rolled TRIP-assisted steel, ferrite matrix recrystallizes and austenite forms. After subsequent quenching, part of that austenite may remain at room temperature as retained austenite, while the other part transforms into martensite. Based on their respective origin, recrystallized ferrite grains were recognized as

New Multiphase CP and DP 1000 MPa strength level grades for improved performance after hot forming [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Pure martensitic steels have after hot forming limited performance in terms of rest ductility which limits the application in crash relevant parts. New steel grades were designed in the EU project HOTFORM including the corresponding process routes. These

Mechanisms of austenite growth during intercritical annealing in medium manganese steels

open access: yesScripta Materialia, 2022
Abstract The third-generation advanced high strength medium manganese (3–12 wt.%) steels typically consist of ultrafine-grained dual-phase (austenite-ferrite) microstructure, obtained through the intercritical annealing of martensite at temperatures typically ≤  0.5Tmelt, where the bulk diffusion of Mn is extremely slow.
