A field experiment was conducted in two sessons to find out a suitable intercrop in banana fields of Vaigai-Periyar River Command aroa. Short duration pulses like greengram increased not only the bunch yield of banana but also gave higher economic returns. Among vegetables, Bhendi was a profitable inter crop.

Diseases in Intercropping Systems
Annual Review of Phytopathology, 2013Intercropping, the simultaneous cultivation of multiple crop species, has been used throughout history and remains common among farmers of small landholdings in the tropics. One benefit of this practice may be disease control. In phenomenological research comparing disease in monocrops and intercrops, primarily due to foliar fungi, intercropping ...

Peasant agriculture in the tropics assumes ever greater importance, but relevant experiments are difficult to conduct, partly because existing techniques were evolved for single crops, whereas smallholders may use several crops together. Also, the concern of smallholders is to minimize the risk of crop failure rather than to maximize average yields ...

Instant Insights: Intercropping
2023This collection features four peer-reviewed reviews on intercropping. The first chapter summarises data from over 50 field experiments undertaken since 2001 on cereal–grain legume intercropping using spring and winter cereal–grain legume intercrops. The chapter addresses the effects of intercropping on yields and quality, the agronomical performance ...
