The IQ‐compete assay for measuring mitochondrial protein import efficiencies in living yeast cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The efficiency of mitochondrial protein import depends on the properties of the newly synthesized precursor proteins. The Import and de‐Quenching Competition (IQ‐compete) assay is a novel method to monitor the import efficiency of different proteins by fluorescence in living yeast cells.

Targeting EZH2 reverses thyroid cell dedifferentiation and enhances iodide uptake in anaplastic thyroid cancer

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) lacks iodide uptake ability due to MAPK activation increasing the expression of the histone methyltransferase EZH2, which represses thyroid differentiation genes (TDGs) such as the sodium iodide symporter (NIS). Dual inhibition of MAPK (U0126) and EZH2 (EPZ6438/Tazemetostat) reverses this mechanism, thus restoring TDG ...

Empirical Research on Rate of Return, Interest Rate and Mudharabah Deposit

open access: yesSHS Web of Conferences, 2017
The objective of this study is to analyze the effects of interest rate and the rate of return on mudharabah deposits in Islamic banks. Using data covering the period from January 2012 to September 2015, the study applies the regression analysis to ...

Hematopoietic (stem) cells—The elixir of life?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The aging of HSCs (hematopoietic stem cells) and the blood system leads to the decline of other organs. Rejuvenating aged HSCs improves the function of the blood system, slowing the aging of the heart, kidney, brain, and liver, and the occurrence of age‐related diseases.

The role and implications of mammalian cellular circadian entrainment

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
At their most fundamental level, mammalian circadian rhythms occur inside every individual cell. To tell the correct time, cells must align (or ‘entrain’) their circadian rhythm to the external environment. In this review, we highlight how cells entrain to the major circadian cues of light, feeding and temperature, and the implications this has for our

Continuous Time Models of Interest Rate: Testing Peso-Dollar Exchange Rate

open access: yesEconomía Teoría y Práctica, 2011
As an extension of the article by Núñez, De la Cruz and Ortega (2007), different parametric models with jumps are tested with the methodology developed by Ait-Sahalia and Peng (2006), based on the transition function.

On high interest rates in Brazil

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Political Economy, 2014
This article examines the question of why interest rates are so high in Brazil as compared to the international average. It looks at theoretical arguments based on excessive government deficits, structural lack of private savings, inflation bias ...

Molecular bases of circadian magnesium rhythms across eukaryotes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Circadian rhythms in intracellular [Mg2+] exist across eukaryotic kingdoms. Central roles for Mg2+ in metabolism suggest that Mg2+ rhythms could regulate daily cellular energy and metabolism. In this Perspective paper, we propose that ancestral prokaryotic transport proteins could be responsible for mediating Mg2+ rhythms and posit a feedback model ...

Real‐time assay of ribonucleotide reductase activity with a fluorescent RNA aptamer

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ribonucleotide reductases (RNR) synthesize DNA building blocks de novo, making them crucial in DNA replication and drug targeting. FLARE introduces the first single‐tube real‐time coupled RNR assay, which enables isothermal tracking of RNR activity at nanomolar enzyme levels and allows the reconstruction of allosteric regulatory patterns and rapid ...
