Designing the interface designer's interface
Proceedings of the 1st annual ACM SIGGRAPH symposium on User Interface Software, 1988The concepts of a user interface management system (UIMS) and user interface designer have become well known in the user interface and graphics community. Most UIMSs developed so far have concentrated on the efficiency of generating the user interface; the user interface designer's interface has received relatively little attention.

Conventional type systems specify interfaces in terms of values and domains. We present a light-weight formalism that captures the temporal aspects of software component interfaces. Specifically, we use an automata-based language to capture both input assumptions about the order in which the methods of a component ...

Polyphenols are important molecules in living organisms, particularly in plants, where they serve as protectants against predators. They are also of fundamental importance in pharmacology for their antioxidant and antibacterial activities. Since a few years polyphenols are also used in surface functionalization mimicking the tannin deposition observed ...

Bonding mechanisms at the interface of ceramic prosthetic materials
, 1971The development of a bone-bonding calcia-phosposilicate glass-ceramic is discussed. A theoretical model to explain the interfacial bonding is based upon in-vitro studies of glass-ceramic solubility in interfacial hydroxyapatite crystallization mechanisms,

Interface states at the SiO2-Si interface
Surface Science Letters, 1983Abstract The present understanding of interface states at the SiO2-Si interface is reviewed. Typical results of measurement techniques are presented and critically discussed with respect to identification of types and origins of interface states. Only one type of interface state is observed after strong hydrogen annealing.

Interface lift [user interface
IEEE Spectrum, 2005This paper discusses the advent of new types of user interfaces that are designed not just for office workers but for a wide variety of users with special needs. While the interface for documents, folders and menus that is familiar to computer users today was a huge breakthrough compared with the command-driven interface that preceded it, it is by no ...

This presentation discusses the availability of a standard-cell library targeting the TSMC-0.25 /spl mu/m, 2.5 V CMOS process; IBM's development of a new "Double-Gate" transistor fabricated in an SOI process and Intel's "TetraHertz Transistor," which it claims is the world's smallest transistor with a gate length of only 15 nm; Modu-Lab, a Web site ...

A short survey of past and recent issues related to multimodal interfaces. Multimodality may help in many situations, e.g. when supporting impaired people, but needs an accurate design phase to correctly synchronize modes.

Nonlinearity interfaces, i.e. those between an ordinary dielectric and a dielectric material with an intensity-dependent index of refraction, have recently played an important role as an element in optical bistable devices 1,3. The efforts of researchers are aimed at finding non linear materials with particular optical properties in order to fit very ...
