The possibility of forming a hydrophobic metallic interface is shown when it is micrometrically textured. On such surface obtained by gold coating the polymer honeycomb template, the apparent contact angle of water was observed to be close to or greater than 90 degrees .

A piezoelectric hypothesis for interface superconductivity in CuCl
Solid State Communications, 1980Abstract A new model for “excitonic” superconductivity is proposed to explain the anomalous diamagnetism seen in CuCl. The superconductivity is presumed to occur in thin layers of copper deposited in grain boundaries of the CuCl. Pairing of the cooper electrons is ascribed to virtual electronic excitations between the metal and adjacent, two ...

The free energies of transferring a variety of anesthetic and nonanesthetic compounds across water-oil and water-membrane interfaces were obtained using computer simulations. Anesthetics exhibit greatly enhanced concentrations at these interfaces, compared to nonanesthetics.

Improvement of Embedded Human-Machine Interfaces Combining Language, Hypothesis and Error Models
2011 22nd International Workshop on Database and Expert Systems Applications, 2011In this paper, a generic Symbol Input Correction Method for Human-Machine Interfaces, especially useful for embedded devices where the input subsystem is often size-constrained, combining a Language Model, the Input Hypothesis information and an Error Model is proposed.

Testing the Interface Vulnerability Hypothesis with Korean Heritage Speakers
Korean Journal of Applied Linguistics, 2013This study investigates the validity of Sorace (2011)’s Interface Hypothesis by testing Korean heritage speakers over two different interface properties in binding phenomena - syntax-semantics interface and syntax-pragmatics interface. The study focuses on the interpretation of binding of various Korean anaphors.

The Rayleigh hypothesis in scattering off photonic crystal interfaces
Optics Communications, 2007Abstract We examine the Rayleigh hypothesis in the context of scattering of light off photonic crystal interfaces. First, the hypothesis – which was initially suggested for scattering of waves off rough surfaces between homogeneous media – is rephrased to apply to photonic crystal interfaces.

Language Acquisition, 2017
ABSTRACTAccording to the Interface Hypothesis (IH) (e.g., Tsimpli & Sorace 2006; Sorace 2011), external interfaces are more challenging for L2 learners than internal interfaces. It is not clear, however, if linguistic phenomena associated with external interfaces are necessarily problematic and if internal interfaces are necessarily unproblematic.

Discourse-linking in advanced L3 English: Testing the Interface Hypothesis
Lingua, 2018This study tests the Interface Hypothesis in the field of L3 acquisition. The learners are L1 Arabic–L2 French adults at the intermediate and advanced levels in L3 English. A forced multiple-choice written task tests non-d-linked and d-linked wh-questions, representing narrow syntax and the syntax–discourse interface.

Negative Refraction at a Lossy Interface and a Bold Hypothesis via Complex Frequency
Journal of Shanghai Jiaotong University (Science), 2019We investigate the negative refraction effect at a planar interface of a highly absorptive material, where the direct experimental verification is difficult because of the loss-induced skin depth effect. An apparent contradiction occurs when we try to determine the group velocity direction by the method of equifrequency contours (EFCs) in detail.

Reconstruction and Extension of the Family–Vicsek Scaling Hypothesis for Growing Rough Interfaces
Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, 2007A scaling hypothesis for the standard deviation σ of the height of growing interfaces is proposed by extending the Family–Vicsek (FV) scaling hypothesis. A data-collapsing method is adopted for estimating values of three exponents α, β, and z , which characterize, respectively, the roughness, growth, and dynamic properties of growing interfaces.
