Determination of ADP/ATP translocase isoform ratios in malignancy and cellular senescence

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The individual functions of three isoforms exchanging ADP and ATP (ADP/ATP translocases; ANTs) on the mitochondrial membrane remain unclear. We developed a method for quantitatively differentiating highly similar human ANT1, ANT2, and ANT3 using parallel reaction monitoring. This method allowed us to assess changes in translocase levels during cellular

Dirac and Majorana neutrinos in matter

open access: yes, 2008
We consider the matter effects on neutrinos moving in background on the basis of the corresponding quantum wave equations. Both Dirac and Majorana neutrino cases are discussed.

Strong light-matter coupling in quantum chemistry and quantum photonics

open access: yesNanophotonics, 2018
In this article, we review strong light-matter coupling at the interface of materials science, quantum chemistry, and quantum photonics. The control of light and heat at thermodynamic limits enables exciting new opportunities for the rapidly converging ...

Lasers that learn: The interface of laser machining and machine learning

open access: yesIET Optoelectronics, 2021
Laser machining is a highly flexible non-contact fabrication method used extensively across academia and industry. Whilst simulations based on fundamental understanding offer some insight into the processes, the highly nonlinear interactions between ...

A nucleotide‐independent, pan‐RAS‐targeted DARPin elicits anti‐tumor activity in a multimodal manner

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We report a Designed Ankyrin Repeat Protein that binds and inhibits RAS proteins, which serve as central cell signaling hubs and are essential for the progression of many cancers. Its unique feature is that it does not discriminate between different RAS isoforms or mutations and is capable of binding to RAS in both its active (GTP‐bound) and inactive ...

Constraining phases of quark matter with studies of r-mode damping in neutron stars

open access: yes, 2010
The r-mode instability in rotating compact stars is used to constrain the phase of matter at high density. The color-flavor-locked phase with kaon condensation (CFL-K0) and without (CFL) is considered in the temperature range 10^8K < T 10^{11} K, the ...

PyUltraLight: a pseudo-spectral solver for ultralight dark matter dynamics [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics, 2018
PYULTRALIGHT simulates the dynamics of ultralight dark matter in a non-expanding background. PYULTRALIGHT can describe the evolution of several interacting ultralight dark matter halos or one or more halos orbiting a central, fixed Newtonian potential ...

Evidence That Microorganisms at the Animal-Water Interface Drive Sea Star Wasting Disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2021
Sea star wasting (SSW) disease describes a condition affecting asteroids that resulted in significant Northeastern Pacific population decline following a mass mortality event in 2013. The etiology of SSW is unresolved.

EMT‐associated bias in the Parsortix® system observed with pancreatic cancer cell lines

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The Parsortix® system was tested for CTC enrichment using pancreatic cancer cell lines with different EMT phenotypes. Spike‐in experiments showed lower recovery of mesenchymal‐like cells. This was confirmed with an EMT‐inducible breast cancer cell line.

Soliton dynamics at an interface between uniform medium and nonlinear optical lattice

open access: yes, 2009
We study trapping and propagation of a matter-wave soliton through the interface between uniform medium and a nonlinear optical lattice (NOL). Different regimes for transmission of a broad and a narrow soliton are investigated.
