Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Strategies of constructing highly stable interfaces with low resistance in inorganic oxide-based solid-state lithium batteries

open access: yeseScience
Oxide solid-state electrolytes (OSEs) with high ionic conductivity, wide electrochemical window and inherent safety are critical to achieve high-energy-density and safe performance of solid-state batteries (SSBs). However, the large interfacial impedance

Two-Group Modeling of Interfacial Area Transport in Large Diameter Channels

open access: yes, 2015
A comparison of the existing two-group interfacial area transport equation source and sink terms for large diameter channels with recently collected interfacial area concentration measurements (Schlegel et al., 2012, 2014. Int. J. Heat Fluid Flow 47, 42)

Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Alumina: Effects of Scanning Strategies on External and Internal Defects

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates how scanning strategies affect pure alumina in laser powder bed fusion. Linear 45° scanning yields uniform surfaces but high porosity, while the island‐concentric strategy provides higher density with through‐holes favorable for infiltration. Findings highlight pathways toward optimizing defect‐free alumina parts.

Modeling of interfacial area concentration and interfacial momentum transfer: Theoretical and experimental study

open access: yes, 1997
The interfacial transfer terms are important for modeling the dynamic coupling between the phases in a two-fluid formulation. The geometric factor of these transfer terms is recognized by the interfacial area concentration.

Measurement of interfacial area per volume for drainage and imbibition

open access: yes, 2007
We investigate experimentally the functional relationship between capillary pressure, Pc, wetting phase saturation, S-w, and interfacial area per volume between the wetting and nonwetting phases, awn, for drainage and imbibition processes in micromodels ...

Carboxylic‐Acid Functionalized Multiwalled Carbon Nanotube‐Alkane‐Based Resistive Temperature Sensor for Cold Chain Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a reversible temperature sensor with high switching ratio, ∼103. The device is fabricated using PET‐ITO and carbon nanotube dispersions in alkane. Considering its application in cold chain logistics, a proof‐of‐concept with LED is showcased. Thus, a temperature drop below the threshold temperature (crystallization temperature of the

Formation of interfacial area at submerged multiple orifices

open access: yes, 1965
Interfacial area was formed by passing air at flow rates in the jetting range through multiple orifices that were submerged horizontally beneath 4.5 feet of each of four different liquids.

Low‐Cost, Large‐Scale Nanoporous Metals by Mechanical Alloying, Oxide Reduction, and Dealloying of Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Powder metal processing provides scalable advantages in nanoporous (np) metal development. Mechanical alloying is used to produce unique precursors for hybrid nanopore formation by oxide reduction and dealloying. As demonstrated in np Ag, this approach improves process efficiency while promoting smaller ligaments and larger pores, both of which are ...
