Experimental interfacial area measurements in a bubble column
Chemical Engineering Journal, 2010Abstract Gas holdup, bubble diameter and gas–liquid interfacial area were measured in a bubble column, during the absorption of CO2 in DEA solutions in batch conditions, as a function of column height, operating time, gas flow rate and amine concentration.

Effective interfacial area in liquid—liquid extraction
Liquid extraction accompanied by fast pseudo-first order reaction was used to evaluate the values of the effective area of the interface between the two liquids. It was found that the alkaline hydrolysis of formate esters could be conveniently employed for this purpose.

The dependence has been measured of the interfacial area and the number of transfer units for gas side resistance controlled absorption on the flow rate of gas and liquid at counter- and cocurrent flow arrangement. The measurements have been carried out for a vertical expanded metal sheet packing exhibiting a strong dependence of the interfacial area ...

Volume 4: Student Paper Competition, 2021
Abstract The interfacial area transport equation is a more accurate and stable way to compute the interfacial area concentration than the traditional empirical correlation in the two-phase two-fluid model. And among the parameters in the two-group interfacial area transport equation, the interfacial area concentration weighted area ...

Interfacial Area Measurement Using a Radioisotope Technique [PDF]
A radioactive technique to determine interfacial area between solid-liquid and liquid-liquid phases has been investigated. Plastic and liquid scintillators and β-particles from tritium solution were used for this purpose. The tritium β-particles have a very short range (about 5 μm in water), and the surface area of contact between the tritium ...

Using a New Interfacial Area Transport Equation to Predict Interfacial Area in Co‐current Jet Mixers
The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 2002AbstractIn multiphase operations, such as liquid‐liquid or gas‐liquid systems, the interfacial area affects the interfluid heat, mass and momentum transfer and ultimately, the overall equipment performance. To better understand the mixing process, we developed a multi‐fluid model that predicts interfacial area for kerosene‐water mixtures in co‐current ...

Interfacial area density in bubbly flow
Chemical Engineering and Processing: Process Intensification, 1999Abstract The interfacial area per unit volume is one of the key parameters in bubbly flow. Momentum, mass and energy transfer occur through the interface between the phases. The functionality of two phase reactors with bubbly flow depends mainly on these three transfer processes.

Interfacial Areas in Athabasca Oil Sands
Energy & Fuels, 2017Determination of interfacial areas is crucial for accurate identification of multiphase subsurface flow processes, e.g., in situ water treatment, contaminant transport, phase change, convection/diffusion, and colloid adsorption/desorption/migration. Pore-scale imaging and simulation techniques provide an appealing opportunity to explicitly predict such
