Interfacial and density fluctuations in a lattice model of motility-induced phase separation

open access: yesThe Journal of Chemical Physics
We analyze motility-induced phase separation and bubbly phase separation in a two-dimensional lattice model of self-propelled particles. We compare systems where the dense (liquid) phase has slab and droplet geometries. We find that interfacial fluctuations of the slab are well-described by capillary wave theory, despite the existence of bubbles in the

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Evaluating the Topological Features of Monomeric and Trimeric TRAF2-C: A Multi-Disciplinary Approach

open access: yesBiomolecules
This study investigates the structural dynamics of the TRAF2 C-terminal domain (TRAF2-C), a key adaptor protein in TNF receptor signaling. TRAF2 usually forms trimers, but its ability to dissociate into monomers is critical for regulating apoptosis ...

Surface induced disorder in body-centered cubic alloys

open access: yes, 2000
We present Monte Carlo simulations of surface induced disordering in a model of a binary alloy on a bcc lattice which undergoes a first order bulk transition from the ordered DO3 phase to the disordered A2 phase.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Nonequilibrium fluctuations of an interface under shear

open access: yes, 2009
The steady state properties of an interface in a stationary Couette flow are addressed within the framework of fluctuating hydrodynamics. Our study reveals that thermal fluctuations are driven out of equilibrium by an effective shear rate that differs ...

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Mechanical origin of Amonton’s law in nanoscale friction

open access: yesFriction
The widely used Amonton’s law, which describes the common observation that dry friction between two surfaces is proportional to the normal load, has yet to be explicitly derived since its discovery from Leonardo da Vinci era.

Study on the Instability of Two-Phase Flow in the Heat-Absorbing Tube of Trough Solar Collector

open access: yesInternational Journal of Photoenergy, 2017
The Marangoni effect and Rayleigh-Benard effect in the two-phase region of solar trough heat-absorbing tube are simulated by FTM (front tracking method). Considering the Marangoni effect alone, although surface tension gradient and surface tension affect

Interfacial tension and nucleation in mixtures of colloids and long ideal polymer coils

open access: yes, 2002
Mixtures of ideal polymers with hard spheres whose diameters are smaller than the radius of gyration of the polymer, exhibit extensive immiscibility.
