On the influence of temperature and viscosity fluctuations on interfacial instability
International Communications in Heat and Mass Transfer, 1996Abstract Recently, Pinarbasi and Liakopoulos [1] investigated the effect of variable viscosity on the interfacial stability of two-layer, plane, Poiseuille flow. Temperature and viscosity fluctuations were neglected based on the observation that their effect on the stability of single-layer, Poiseuille flow is very small [2,3].

Spontaneous Polarity Flipping in a 2D Heterobilayer Induced by Fluctuating Interfacial Carrier Flows
Nano Letters, 2021Polarity often refers to the charge carrier type of a semiconductor or the charging state of a functional group, generally dominating their functionality and performance. Herein we uncover a spontaneous and stochastic polarity-flipping phenomenon in monolayer WSe2, which randomly switches between the n-type and p-type states and is essentially ...

Interfacial Thermal Fluctuations Stabilize Bulk Nanobubbles
Physical Review LettersConsensus on bulk nanobubble stability remains elusive, despite accepted indirect evidence for longevity. We develop a nanobubble evolution model by incorporating thermal capillary wave theory that reveals that dense nanobubbles generated by acoustic cavitation tend to shrink and intensify interfacial thermal fluctuations; this significantly reduces ...

This paper is concerned with the fluctuations of the liquid-gas surface. We study the approach to the strong fluctuation regime as the strength of the external field pinning an interface is decreased. By means of a variational approach we treat self-consistently the order parameter and its correlations in three dimensions.

Effects of interfacial transport on the equilibrium fluctuations in fluid layers
Physical Review A, 1983Complete hydrodynamic theory of the dynamics of equilibrium fluctuations in one-component fluid layers confined by rigid solid boundaries is presented. The dynamic structure factor for such a fluid layer is shown to have both diagonal and off-diagonal elements which depend on the layer height $L$ and on the transport of energy and tangential momentum ...

Interfacial Fluctuation Spectroscopy and Surface Light Scattering Spectroscopy
Photon Correlation and Scattering, 2000The spectra of interfaeial fluctuations are derived using potential and stream functions for expressing the velocity fields around and in interfaces of films. Fourier transform optic formalism provides a quantitative theory for fitting observed spectra.

Temperature dependence of interfacial fluctuations of polymerized fatty acid salt multilayers
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2005X-ray scattering was used to study the temperature dependence of the profile structure of polymerized 10,12-tricosadiynoic acid salt multilayers. The stacking periodicity of the multilayers was found to decrease with increasing temperature due to the conformational changes of the alkyl chains.

Suppression of Interfacial Current Fluctuation in MoTe2 Transistors with Different Dielectrics
ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2016For transition metal dichalcogenides, the fluctuation of the channel current due to charged impurities is attributed to a large surface area and a thickness of a few nanometers. To investigate current variance at the interface of transistors, we obtain the low-frequency (LF) noise features of MoTe2 multilayer field-effect transistors with different ...

Kinetics of fluctuations for systems undergoing phase transitions - interfacial approach
Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 1983Abstract Studies on kinetics of fluctuations in quenched fluid systems are reviewed on the basis of a new dynamical interfacial model. All the processes known to take place in critical fluid mixtures are identified for this model. We briefly discuss the Ostwald ripening and the interface stability with this model.

Interfacial Fluctuations of Block Copolymers: A Coarse-Grain Molecular Dynamics Simulation Study
The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2007The lamellar and cylindrical phases of block copolymers have a number of technological applications, particularly when they occur in supported thin films. One such application is block copolymer lithography, the use of these materials to subdivide or enhance submicrometer patterns defined by optical or electron beam methods.
