Engineering interfacial polarization switching in van der Waals multilayers
Nature NanotechnologyIn conventional ferroelectric materials, polarization is an intrinsic property limited by bulk crystallographic structure and symmetry. Recently, it has been demonstrated that polar order can also be accessed using inherently non-polar van der Waals materials through layer-by-layer assembly into heterostructures, wherein interfacial interactions can ...

Cumulative polarization in conductive interfacial ferroelectrics
Nature, 2022Ferroelectricity in atomically thin bilayer structures has been recently predicted1 and measured2-4 in two-dimensional materials with hexagonal non-centrosymmetric unit-cells. The crystal symmetry translates lateral shifts between parallel two-dimensional layers to sign changes in their out-of-plane electric polarization, a mechanism termed 'slide ...

Interfacial interactions and interfacial polarization in polyazomethine/MWCNTs nanocomposites
Composites Science and Technology, 2020Abstract We prepared the polyazomethine/MWCNTs nanocomposites varying in the nanofiller loading (from 0 to 1.5 wt%). Taking into account an upshift of the characteristic D and G bands of MWCNTs in the Raman spectrum of the nanocomposite, we confirmed the interfacial interactions between MWCNTs and polymer chains.

Ultrahigh Energy-Storage Density of BaTiO3-Based Ceramics via the Interfacial Polarization Strategy.
ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces, 2023Lead-free dielectric capacitors are excellent candidates for pulsed power devices. However, their low breakdown strength (Eb) strongly limits their energy-storage performance. In this study, Sr0.7Bi0.2TiO3 (SBT) and Bi(Mg0.5Hf0.5)O3 (BMH) were introduced

Interfacial tension of polar mixtures
Transactions of the Faraday Society, 1967A statistical model is developed to represent the adsorption of a soluble surface active material at an oil/water interface. The lowering of interfacial tension associated with this lattice gas representation is compared with predictions based on a regular solution theory and with experiment.

Modulation of organic interfacial spin polarization by interfacial angle
Chemical Physics Letters, 2017Abstract Based on ab initio theory, we theoretically investigated the interfacial spin polarization by adsorbing a benzene-dithiolate molecule onto a nickel surface with different interfacial angles. A variable magnitude and even an inversion of the interfacial spin polarization are observed with the increase of the interfacial angle.

Interfacial polarization phenomena in organic molecular films
Analytica Chimica Acta, 2006Electrostatic phenomena occurring at the interface between metal/organic and organic/organic materials are discussed from the viewpoint of dielectrics physics. Focusing on two important origins of surface polarization phenomena, orientational ordering of polar molecules and displacement of excess charges at the interface, surface polarization phenomena

Bulk and interfacial properties of polar fluids
Berichte der Bunsengesellschaft für physikalische Chemie, 1994AbstractBased on a suitable density functional theory for inhomogeneous fluids we investigate both the bulk phase diagram and interfacial structures of polar fluids in general and of Stockmayer fluids in particular. We derive a scheme which allows us to analyze one‐component fluids composed of molecules with strong permanent dipole moments which are ...
