Interacting Dark Matter and q‐Deformed Dark Energy Nonminimally Coupled to Gravity

open access: yesAdvances in High Energy Physics, Volume 2016, Issue 1, 2016., 2016
In this paper, we propose a new approach to study the dark sector of the universe by considering the dark energy as an emerging q‐deformed bosonic scalar field which is not only interacting with the dark matter, but also nonminimally coupled to gravity, in the framework of standard Einsteinian gravity.

Probing the Universe with Fast Radio Bursts

open access: yesUniverse, 2021
Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs) represent a novel tool for probing the properties of the universe at cosmological distances. The dispersion measures of FRBs, combined with the redshifts of their host galaxies, has very recently yielded a direct measurement of ...

Plasma‐assisted fabrication of multiscale materials for electrochemical energy conversion and storage

open access: yesCarbon Energy, Volume 7, Issue 2, February 2025.
In this review, we aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of plasma and its application in energy storage and conversion. The classification of plasma technologies and principles are summarized. Recent developments in the synthesis or modification of multiscale materials based on plasma techniques including conversion, doping, deposition, and ...

Gamma‐Ray Bursts as Multienergy Neutrino Sources

open access: yesAdvances in Astronomy, Volume 2015, Issue 1, 2015., 2015
We review theoretical models for nonelectromagnetic emission, mainly neutrinos and cosmic rays, from gamma‐ray bursts (GRBs). In various stages of the relativistic jet propagation, cosmic‐ray ion acceleration and subsequent neutrino emission are expected.

Scattered Lyman-alpha Radiation Around Sources Before Cosmological Reionization

open access: yes, 1999
The spectra of the first galaxies and quasars in the Universe should be strongly absorbed shortward of their rest-frame Lyman-alpha wavelength by neutral hydrogen (HI) in the intervening intergalactic medium. However, the Lyman-alpha line photons emitted

Halo White Dwarfs and the Hot Intergalactic Medium [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
We present a schematic model for the formation of baryonic galactic halos and hot gas in the Local Group and the intergalactic medium. We follow the dynamics, chemical evolution, heat flow and gas flows of a hierarchy of scales, including: protogalactic ...

Constraints on the Evolution of the Ionizing Background and Ionizing Photon Mean Free Path at the End of Reionization

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The variations in Ly α forest opacity observed at z > 5.3 between lines of sight to different background quasars are too strong to be caused by fluctuations in the density field alone.

Strategy to Explore Magnetized Cosmic Web with Forthcoming Large Surveys of Rotation Measure

open access: yesGalaxies, 2018
The warm-hot intergalactic medium (WHIM) is a candidate for the missing baryons in the Universe. If the WHIM is permeated with the intergalactic magnetic field (IGMF), the Faraday rotation measure (RM) of the WHIM is imprinted in linearly-polarized ...

Predator's Prey: Reframing indigenous representation and Hollywood franchise cinema in the age of SVOD

open access: yesThe Journal of Popular Culture, Volume 57, Issue 3, Page 175-188, June 2024.
Abstract Hulu's Prey (2022), the fifth installment of the Predator franchise, is set in 1719 and features a Comanche female protagonist. The setting is unlike the 1987 Predator and its sequels, with their hardbody machismo and conservative politics. We argue that Prey is a small but significant step in Hollywood, but its inclusivity comes at a price ...

The Natural Science Underlying Big History

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, Volume 2014, Issue 1, 2014., 2014
Nature’s many varied complex systems—including galaxies, stars, planets, life, and society—are islands of order within the increasingly disordered Universe. All organized systems are subject to physical, biological, or cultural evolution, which together comprise the grander interdisciplinary subject of cosmic evolution.
