The Fractal Geometry of the Cosmic Web and Its Formation

open access: yesAdvances in Astronomy, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
The cosmic web structure is studied with the concepts and methods of fractal geometry, employing the adhesion model of cosmological dynamics as a basic reference. The structures of matter clusters and cosmic voids in cosmological N‐body simulations or the Sloan Digital Sky Survey are elucidated by means of multifractal geometry.

The Neutron as an Alternative Explanation for the Trans GZK Cosmic Rays [PDF]

open access: yesMod.Phys.Lett.A22:2593-2603,2007, 2006
We consider the possibility that the particles in the Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays arriving to Earth might be neutrons instead of protons. We stress that in such case the argument for the GZK cutoff is weaker and that it is conceivable that neutrons would not be affected by it.

Propagation of UHE protons through a magnetized large scale structure [PDF]

open access: yesJ.Phys.Conf.Ser.120:062025,2008, 2007
The propagation of UHECRs is affected by the intergalactic magnetic fields that were produced during the course of the large scale structure formation of the universe. We adopt a novel model where the large scale extragalactic magnetic fields (EGMF) are estimated from local dynamic properties of the gas flows in hydrodynamic simulations of a ...

Plasma‐assisted fabrication of multiscale materials for electrochemical energy conversion and storage

open access: yesCarbon Energy, Volume 7, Issue 2, February 2025.
In this review, we aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of plasma and its application in energy storage and conversion. The classification of plasma technologies and principles are summarized. Recent developments in the synthesis or modification of multiscale materials based on plasma techniques including conversion, doping, deposition, and ...

Gamma‐Ray Burst Prompt Correlations

open access: yesAdvances in Astronomy, Volume 2018, Issue 1, 2018., 2018
The mechanism responsible for the prompt emission of gamma‐ray bursts (GRBs) is still a debated issue. The prompt phase‐related GRB correlations can allow discriminating among the most plausible theoretical models explaining this emission. We present an overview of the observational two‐parameter correlations, their physical interpretations, and their ...

Evidence for a new light spin-zero boson from cosmological gamma-ray propagation? [PDF]

open access: yesPhys.Rev.D76:121301,2007, 2007
Recent findings by Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes indicate a large transparency of the Universe to gamma rays, which can be hardly explained within the current models of extragalactic background light. We show that the observed transparency is naturally produced by an oscillation mechanism -- which can occur inside intergalactic magnetic ...

Predator's Prey: Reframing indigenous representation and Hollywood franchise cinema in the age of SVOD

open access: yesThe Journal of Popular Culture, Volume 57, Issue 3, Page 175-188, June 2024.
Abstract Hulu's Prey (2022), the fifth installment of the Predator franchise, is set in 1719 and features a Comanche female protagonist. The setting is unlike the 1987 Predator and its sequels, with their hardbody machismo and conservative politics. We argue that Prey is a small but significant step in Hollywood, but its inclusivity comes at a price ...

Gamma‐Ray Bursts: A Radio Perspective

open access: yesAdvances in Astronomy, Volume 2016, Issue 1, 2016., 2016
Gamma‐ray bursts (GRBs) are extremely energetic events at cosmological distances. They provide unique laboratory to investigate fundamental physical processes under extreme conditions. Due to extreme luminosities, GRBs are detectable at very high redshifts and potential tracers of cosmic star formation rate at early epoch. While the launch of Swift and

The Adventures of the Rocketeer: Accelerated Motion Under the Influence of Expanding Space [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
It is well known that interstellar travel is bounded by the finite speed of light, but on very large scales any rocketeer would also need to consider the influence of cosmological expansion on their journey. This paper examines accelerated journeys within the framework of Friedmann- Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker universes, illustrating how the duration of ...

Interacting Dark Matter and q‐Deformed Dark Energy Nonminimally Coupled to Gravity

open access: yesAdvances in High Energy Physics, Volume 2016, Issue 1, 2016., 2016
In this paper, we propose a new approach to study the dark sector of the universe by considering the dark energy as an emerging q‐deformed bosonic scalar field which is not only interacting with the dark matter, but also nonminimally coupled to gravity, in the framework of standard Einsteinian gravity.
