Sensing the Urban Interior [PDF]
Following the principle of “spatial inversion” (Attiwill, 2011), whereby spaces between buildings habitually referred to as exteriors become interiors, this paper presents the background research, methodology and key findings from a case study framed as ...

Bulk effects on topological conduction on the surface of 3-D topological insulators
The surface states of a topological insulator in a fine-tuned magnetic field are ideal candidates for realizing a topological metal which is protected against disorder.

Numerical Modeling of Tank Cars Carrying Hazardous Materials With and Without Composite Metal Foam
Large‐scale puncture models consisting of hazardous materials (HAZMATs) tank car with protective steel–steel composite metal foam (S–S CMF) are solved numerically. Tank car plate with added 10.91–13.33 mm thick S–S CMF layer does not puncture. Protective S–S CMF absorbs impact energy, reduces plate deformation, and prevents shear bands formation ...

Interior ideals in $\Gamma$-semirings
The concepts of an interior ideal, minimal interior ideal and an interior-simple $\Gamma$-semiring are defined. Various properties of an interior ideal and minimal interior ideal of a $\Gamma$-semiring are studied. Some characterizations of a minimal interior ideal and an interior-simple $\Gamma$-semiring are discussed.

Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

Dynamics of a suspension of interacting yolk-shell particles
In this work we study the self-diffusion properties of a liquid of hollow spherical particles (shells)bearing a smaller solid sphere in their interior (yolks). We model this system using purely repulsive hard-body interactions between all (shell and yolk)

Generalized uni-soft interior ideals in ordered semigroups
Summary: For all \(\mathcal{M,N} \in P(U)\) such that \(\mathcal{M} \subset \mathcal{N}\), we first introduced the definitions of \((\mathcal{M,N})\)-uni-soft ideals and \((\mathcal{M,N})\)-uni-soft interior ideals of an ordered semigroup and studied them. When \(\mathcal{M}=\emptyset\) and \(\mathcal{N}=U\), we meet the ordinary soft ones.

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Soft union interior ideals, quasi-ideals and generalized bi-ideals of rings
In this paper, soft union interior ideals, quasi-ideals and generalized bi-ideals of rings are defined and their properties are obtained and the interrelations of them are given. Moreover regular, regular duo, intra-regular and strongly regular rings are characterized in terms of these soft union ideals.
