Information Geometry and Interior-Point Algorithms in Semidefinite Programs and Symmetric Cone Programs

Journal of Optimization Theory and Applications, 2012
The authors consider interior-point algorithms for semi-definite programming and symmetric conic programming problems. They apply a differential geometric framework, the so-called information geometry, to these classes of problems and show relationships between complexity analysis and the curvature integral taken along the central path.

Associative and Jordan Algebras, and Polynomial Time Interior-Point Algorithms for Symmetric Cones

Mathematics of Operations Research, 2001
We present a general framework whereby analysis of interior-point algorithms for semidefinite programming can be extended verbatim to optimization problems over all classes of symmetric cones derivable from associative algebras. In particular, such analyses are extendible to the cone of positive semidefinite Hermitian matrices with complex and ...

A Class of Interior Proximal-Like Algorithms for Convex Second-Order Cone Programming

SIAM Journal on Optimization, 2008
We propose a class of interior proximal-like algorithms for the second-order cone program, which is to minimize a closed proper convex function subject to general second-order cone constraints. The class of methods uses a distance measure generated by a twice continuously differentiable strictly convex function on $(0,+\infty)$, and includes as a ...

Red Squirrel Responses to Spruce Cone Failure in Interior Alaska

The Journal of Wildlife Management, 1968
Observations were made on a red squirrel (Tamiasciurus hudsonicus) population in mature white spruce (Picea glauca) forest near Fairbanks, Alaska, during 2 years of spruce cone crop failure (July, 1964, to April, 1966). An adequate supply of old spruce cones, cached in previous years, was available during the first winter.

Self-Scaled Cones and Interior-Point Methods in Nonlinear Programming [PDF]

open access: possible, 1994
This paper provides a theoretical foundation for efficient interior-point algorithms for nonlinear programming problems expressed in conic form, when the cone and its associated barrier are self-scaled. For such problems we devise long-step and symmetric primal-dual methods.
