Measurement of fine pearlite interlamellar spacing by atomic force microscopy

Journal of Materials Science, 1997
Pearlite interlamellar spacing is an important parameter controlling ductility and strain hardening of carbon steels. Fine pearlite is the appropriate initial microstructure for drawing high carbon steel with exponential strain hardening rate, leading to high final tensile strengths. The majority of optical and electron microscopy methods for measuring

Effect of alloys additions on the interlamellar spacing of pearlite

Archiv für das Eisenhüttenwesen, 1979
The spacing of pearlite was measured to investigate the effect of, alloying elements on this parameter using high purity plain carbon, 2 % Co, 2 % Si, 1 % Cr and 0.3 % Mo eutectoid steels. The investigation revealed that the addition of these alloying elements increases the spacing of pearlite at a given undercooling.

Effect of Interlamellar Spacing on the Low Cycle Fatigue Behavior of a Fully Pearlitic Steel

Metallography, Microstructure, and Analysis, 2021
The present study aims at investigating the low cycle fatigue behavior of two fully AISI 1080 pearlitic steels which differed in their interlamellar spacing (72 ± 15 and 143 ± 32 nm). Low cycle fatigue tests were performed under positive strain control at different total strain variations (0.6% ≤ Δet ≤ 1.6%). It is shown that both alloys presented an

Interlamellar Spacing in Directionally Solidified Eutectic Thin Films

Metallurgical Transactions A, 1984
Fault-free lamellar structures were grown in eutectic thin films of Pb-Sn, Cd-Pb, and Al-Al2Cu. The 2 μ thick films were directionally solidified by either a scanning laser or a quartz iodine lamp. A thermal gradient at the solid-liquid interface was estimated to be 8000°C/cm for the laser heat source compared to 200°C/cm for the lamp.

Osmotic effects on the enclosed volume and interlamellar spacing of multilamellar DODAC vesicles

Colloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects, 2008
Abstract Dispersions of multilamellar dioctadecyldimethylammonium chloride (DODAC) vesicles are known to have a wide range of sizes and lamellarities. Osmotic effects on these dispersions were investigated by means of NMR diffusometry and small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS).

Superior Sodium Storage of Vanadium Pentoxide Cathode with Controllable Interlamellar Spacing

Electrochimica Acta, 2017
Abstract The orthorhombic and hydrated vanadium pentoxide (V 2 O 5 ) films are fabricated via a facile electrodeposition method followed with a controllable annealing process. Served as sodium ion batteries (SIBs) cathode, the hydrated V 2 O 5 film exhibits enhanced sodium storage performance over the orthorhombic V 2 O 5 film, originating from ...

Effect of heat treatment and interlamellar spacing on the tensile deformation of the aligned AlCuAl2 eutectic

Acta Metallurgica, 1980
Abstract A systematic study of the tensile deformation behaviour of a unidirectionally solidified AlCuAl 2 eutectic alloy has been made. High sensitivity tensile tests were performed on alloys with different heat-treatments and interlamellar spacings, λ, and the microstructure of the alloys was examined by transmission electron microscopy in both ...

Monte Carlo simulations of the interlamellar spacing in model n-alkane crystals

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1998
Monte Carlo simulations are carried out on a simple one-dimensional model of n-alkane crystals to investigate the chain length dependence of the interlamellar spacing, which has implications with regard to the Raman spectra of n-alkane crystals. The results of these simulations show no significant chain length dependence for the interlamellar spacing ...

Application of the Disector to Determine the Distribution of True Interlamellar Spacing in Lamellar Microstructures

Practical Metallography, 2010
Abstract It is well known that the interlamellar spacing controls the mechanical properties of any material with a lamellar microstructure. It is also expected, although not yet established, that varying distribution of interlamellar spacing would also influence the properties.

Effect of cumulative cold drawing on the pearlite interlamellar spacing in eutectoid steel

Scripta Materialia, 1998
In this paper an analysis is made of the influence of manufacture by continuous cold drawing on the interlamellar spacing of an eutectoid prestressing steel. Consideration is given to the microstructure evolution as the drawing progresses up to the final commercial product which is heavily drawn and has undergone severe straining.
